Walking whilst heavily pregnant

Hello,

I'm 38 weeks pregnant with my first child.

I am desperate to try and get labour going due to SPD.

I am trying all the usual tricks but I know lots of pregnant ladies go for long walks. I struggle with the SPD but I also have so much pressure down there!! The pressure seems to be getting worse over the past few days. Is this normal??? How do people manage to walk miles if so?? Or is this pressure just me and a sign that labour is on its way?

Currently I can't walk very far before the pressure gets too much!

You don't need to walk miles OP, with my swollen feet in my last pregnancy it was all I could do to get to the corner shop!

I walked round the block a few times to keep things moving!

Have you tried going up and down the stairs sideways? Do you have a ball to bounce on? These things will be just as helpful.

Good luck, baby will soon be here!

I had spd in my pregnancy and it was the most horrific experience ever. Many a day I sobbed my heard out and nothing cured the pain . So I really feel for you

. I was the same as you at 38 weeks I ended up forcing myself into a two mile walk with my husband pausing when I needed to and it helped me go into labour as did sweeps . I was under a specialist though due to the spd .

So they had agreed to induce me at 39 weeks so I was having sweeps the week before by the midwife to see if I could go into labour naturally . I think a combination of the sweeps and walking made me go into labour naturally . Speak to the midwife/hospital they may be able to do something similar for you . I just couldn't take the pain anymore .

I’m 38 + 4 OP, I feel your pain! We’re off for a walk today with a couple of friends, I’ve just warned them I’ll be going at a snail’s pace and we’re not planning on covering a great distance. It’s frustrating as usually I’m a pretty regular walker under regular conditions but the heat and the cervix pressure are definitely putting paid to it! Sounds like the amount of pressure you’re feeling could be promising though Smile fingers crossed for you! I haven’t had SPD and I feel for anyone who has, it sounds like an utter bitch.

Thank you so much both. Yes I'll be induced by my due date (15th aug) if I don't have the baby before.

Does this pressure sound normal to you? It feels like bubs is going to fall out or my waters are just going to explode at any time!!

Yes op the pressure is very normal . It means the baby is getting ready to me born the pressure will be the baby pushing against your cervix

MuchTDo · 02/08/2020 10:18

Thank you @Springawake that's good to hear. Fingers crossed baby is on his/her way!

I've got a ball for the SPD so I'm on that lots!

Just a waiting game now I guess!!!!

I feel like it's never going to start! I bet everyone feels the same!

I've not had SPD so I'm sorry if this is a stupid suggestion but can you kneel? I cleaned all our skirting boards to try and encourage DS out!

BabyB19 · 04/08/2020 13:39

I'm 37+2 and been wondering the same. Everything and everyone I speak to have suggested going for a long walk but I'm dreading Monday when I have to walk to the end of the road to the midwife appointment. The spd/PGP is awful there's no way I can go for a long walk and certainly no way we could manage sex! I'm constantly on the ball and eating dates/raspberry leaf tea and I'll give a curry a go, not that I expect any of that to work like! I second the pressure as well, I sat on the edge of the bath to try and shave my legs and was convinced my insides were about to fall out. Hopefully it's all good signs that baby is about to make a move xx

MuchTDo · 04/08/2020 20:22

@BabyB19 I feel your pain and totally agree! Have you had any signs yet??

The baby has been fully engaged since 34 weeks, today I've had really bad back ache and a few odd twinges I haven't felt before! Wether anything will come of it who knows! How about you @MuchTDo ??
