Hypnobirthing courses

Chab92 · 15/07/2020 13:32

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and looking into hynobirthing but it's all rather overwhelming...
Is it worth doing?
And which course do I go with if so? I've seen some online courses from the 'positive birth company' at £39 and the 'bump to baby chapter' for £27. Has anybody done either of these or similar and can you recommend or advise me?
Thankyou :)

I did a F2F hypnobirthing course when I was pregnant with DC1 and it was definitely worth it. I haven't done any of the online courses so can't advise on those but I would go for it if I were you! Maybe check the details carefully to compare the content and resources that you get with each one.

Thankyou, I'm not really sure what's involved in a proper 'physical' course but they've all been cancelled due to Covid so an online one is my only option at the moment. I'm interested to try it but just not sure whether it's silly or not really

Well it's definitely not "silly"!
Perhaps I didn't make it clear from my post, I know there are no F2F classes atm, but I was trying to say that based on my experience of that I think an online course would be helpful.

We did positive birth company face to face course, would definitely recommend that or the digital course which covers the same info. There is also a book by the founder Siobhan which is very good. There are lots of techniques which you need to practice as often as possible so I would get going ASAP. Although our birth did not go to plan, I felt in control throughout which definitely came from the preparation we did beforehand.

I did a positive birth company course, it's interesting, there are videos that explain what your body goes through when in labour, how to breath. It emphasis benefits of natural birth with no pain relief and staying positive. It helps with anxiety around labour.

Leemooo · 22/07/2020 20:32

The positive birth digital course is fantastic, you get a lot for the money, both knowledge and confidence. When I first started doing the course I was beginning to panic as this is my first pregnancy but I highly recommend it to anyone.
I also downloaded their Freya app to time surges, help you breathe well during labour and let you know when you are in active labour but haven't used it yet so can't give a review on that.
I can't wait to also watch the postpartum pack as I am sure it will fill me with much needed knowledge! Smile

I'm currently doing The Positive Birth Company one and would highly recommend it.

The bump to baby courses are ran by a midwife local to me. My friends that have been to her courses say it is amazing.

I was think of downloading it just to have the material as back up as hopefully the courses should be running again when it's my turn

AliceBaby1 · 20/09/2020 21:39

I have done both of these courses (I’m taking everything I can get at the moment!) and you can really tell that the bump to baby chapter is with a midwife and the positive birth company isn’t. They are both really good and I feel much more excited about birth from both of these but I’ve had a baby before so I know that it’s not always straight forward and, how to make different birth scenarios positive is more of a focus in the one with the midwife in. I’m most likely having an induction so I want to know how to make this work for me which is what the midwife talks about in the bump to baby chapter one. It also has a really fab Facebook support group and she answers your questions in this group too.

OhToBeASeahorse · 21/09/2020 20:08

4 of my friends did the Positive Birth Company before their first babies. Unfortunately their births didnt go to plan and maybe they did the course wrong but they seemed really cheated and felt it had not prepared them.
I'm on baby number 2 and I've done the Bump to Baby. I really like that it is realistic - basically it gives you everything you can do to stack the odds of a straightforward birth. But it also goes through what happens in a section etc.

My only criticism is it's more of an education course than a hypnobirthing one. She isnt going to make you think you are just breathing the baby out. That works for me cos I dont buy that, but others may disagree.

Hope that helpful.

The videos you download in the Bump to Baby chapter...are they all of the midwife just sat talking or are there demonstrations, pictures videos etc?

Following, I'm 33 weeks pregnant and in the same boat!

I did the positive birth company digital course and I can honestly say it is absolutely fantastic.
It gave me the knowledge and skills to be able to cope with what was happening to my body. I suffer with phobias of blood,
Vomit and medial setting and I didn't freak out or panic once.
I ended up with a bleed,
Significant meconium in my waters, pain relief and finally an emergency section.
I don't feel 'cheated' that I didn't get the birth I wanted, I feel empowered and that's what the course helps with.
I chilled out listening to my audio book until I went into theatre.
Go for it

Crazymummyto4 · 04/11/2020 04:14

I did The Positive Birth Company one with my fourth baby and would highly recommend it. I didn't do any hypnobirthing with my first three and definitely noticed such a positive difference when I did.

peachypetite · 11/11/2020 08:20

Another vote for positive birth company.

I did the PBC course to prepare for giving birth to my DS earlier this year. There are some taster videos on their YouTube channel to look at which gives you an idea of what the course will be like. I think that and the Freya app was very helpful as I was able to stay at home until I was 9cm dilated - mainly due to the fact DP couldn’t come in with me until I was sent to the delivery room and in active labour, thanks to covid. To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend staying at home that long and would’ve preferred to go in sooner and get acclimated but there’s pros and cons to everything!

Chanel05 · 12/11/2020 08:53

I did a hypnobirthing zoom course in my local area and enjoyed it. Hypnobirthing did not work for me during labour however.

PeachesandcreamknowwhatImean · 24/02/2021 12:48

We wanted to do something similar and we were just going to go with PBC because I’ve heard loads about it but LUCKILY friends recommended the bump to baby chapter and I’m so so so glad they did. It was such a fantastic support and, from what I’ve heard from others, a much more intimate 1:1 experience where I felt I could get support and advice tailored to me. The midwife leading the course was an expert but managed to make everything really relaxed and accessible. The Bump to Baby Chapter gets my recommendation every time - I honestly couldn’t rave about it enough

MarRos123 · 24/02/2021 21:34

Hypnobirthing is worth its weight it gold! It just makes you feel prepared and gets you in the right mind set.

I did the Bump to Baby Chapter course and it was great. Really informative, I learnt things I didn’t know and it was easy and fun to follow!

Me and my husband actually enjoyed following the course online and it made us get even more excited for our sons arrival! The girl who does the course (I think her name is Beth) is very knowledgeable and she is a registered midwife which was the tipping point for me! Because who is better to give you advice and prepare you for labour etc than a trained midwife?!
