VB or ELCS? I need help deciding!

Currently 34+5 and been told I need to decide on delivery method at 36 week scan. I want an elective c-section but hate the thought of being alone in hospital is terrifying me (I’ll be in Birmingham Women’s and baby boy will be in the Children’s 15 minutes away due to gastroschisis- intestines outside the body - and boyfriend can’t visit me).

The longer I’m in hospital, the longer I’ll go without seeing my son for the first time (consultant said I’ll be shown the baby at birth then he’ll be whisked away to the Children’s) or my boyfriend and I’m so scared of it all.

How long were you in hospital with for either natural birth or c-section? I feel like COVID has taken the decision out of my hands because of the visiting policy!

ELCS.
I have had 2, on emergency and one planned.

Emergency- baby and I were in for 5 days. Baby was in NICU and I didn’t see him for 1 full day. Then I was more mobile and went to NICU and saw him.

Elective- stayed in for one night and then discharged. All really good and simple. I would recommend an ELCS any day of the week to anyone!
Rest afterwards, total bed rest for about a week. Can you have a bed in the ward with your baby?

I would go with ELCS.

DC2 was ELCS and I was discharged 24 hours after the (really lovely) birth. The theatre staff were very supportive during the birth and celebrated with us when DC arrived safely. It's not the same as having a partner present, but it isn't a sterile conveyor belt either.

It also means you know what you're in for - VBs have more variables so you could be in longer beforehand, etc. At least with an ELCS you can go in rested and ready.
