Pethidine and diamorphine

What are people's experiences of having either of these pain relief drugs during labour?
I'm due in a couple of weeks and I'm writing my birth preferences. Ideally I'm hoping to go with gas and air and some Hypnobirthing techniques to get me to through, but was open to taking pain relief drugs if need be.
However - the cons seem to massively outweighs the pros with these drugs! I can't stand being sick/feeling nauseous (who does I guess!) and the thought of dealing with that as well as labour pains does not appeal! As well as feeling dizzy and disoriented.
Then there's the chance of some of the drug being passed to baby.
So has anyone used these drugs and were glad that they did!?

Pethidine was terrible for me. It didn't take any pain away just made slowed mine and baby's heart rate.
I didn't have nausea but I was terribly disoriented and didn't have a clue what was going on.

Diamorphine was great for me. Had it at 6/7cm, and it only lasts a couple of hours... My hospital specifically said they wouldn't give it again as it would be too close to delivery.
Took the edge off, would do it again.
They give you an anti sickness injection at the same time x

Pethidine was terrible for me, made me vomit and then my baby was so sleepy when she was born she wouldn't feed. Avoid!

Hopefully the hospital with give you an antiemetic with the pethidine. Pethidine isn’t great at taking the pain away but it does dull it, say it was a 7/10 if takes it down to a 4-5/10 and makes you sleepy so you can rest between contractions. But, if given close to delivery if can make baby a bit sleepy

I had diamorphine in two different births. I thought it was very effective and would use it again if I ever had another baby.
