Hi guys I'm in the ward now about to have the 24hr pessary but just wondering what other peoples experiences have been. How quick it's worked .. if it hasn't worked ... just experiences? Thank you in advance x

Sounds like things are going in the right direction! Just try to stay relaxed, get a good nights sleep tonight if you can (ask for pain relief if you need to take the edge off to sleep).

TJ17 · 12/07/2020 21:07

Aw good luck @wannabemummy123 🙏🏼
It will be so worth it when baby arrives 😊 hope you manage to get a decent sleep tonight!

Has anyone been allowed to go home after having the pessary and wait for something to happen?
I am being induced at 38 weeks as my baby has a heart condition and I am so upset about having to leave DS who is 2.5. I am likely to be kept in for some time after baby is born because she will need medical treatment so that will be bad enough being away from DS without having days of induction before on top of that 😩 it brings me to tears when I think about it! Hate the thought of not seeing him as I've not even left him overnight once yet 🤦🏼‍♀️

wannabemummy123 · 12/07/2020 21:36

If you're admitted as an inpatient then you have to stay in. But if you come in as an outpatient then you're allowed home until something happens. A lady opposite went home and came back 3 hours later in agony! Bless her. But I dunno how you would be an outpatient... maybe enquire with your midwife ???
I've just come out to sit in the car with my fiancé for a couple hours. He feels so uninvolved... and I'm loving the company aswell xx

Yes I had an outpatient induction, just ask the midwife. I had the pessary then allowed to go home and could continue as a normal labour, ie allowed in the birth pool.

Good luck OP! Hope baby makes an appearance tonight!

Good luck OP! Flowers

I've been induced twice, 5 years apart. The first was the most boring experience of my life, was there for 3 days before anything happened.but once things started happening went quite fast. First baby arrived less than 6 hours after first twinge her sister 3 hours after first twinge. Both were water babies which was lovely. Word for advice, if they decided to break your waters and it hurts, ask them to rotate the crochet hook thing a few degrees Grin

Thanks @ShirleyPhallus

@wannabemummy123 how are things this morning? It's good that you could go and sit in the car with your fiancé. Really feel for you both right now, I'm dreading having to go it alone too 😩 he must feel even more useless than men usually feel bless him! It's lovely that he's still coming up to spend lots of time with you. Let's hope today is your day 🤞🏻Thanks

wannabemummy123 · 13/07/2020 08:02

@TJ17 oh I bloody hope so. I've been in agony all night. So many painful contractions 😩

TJ17 · 13/07/2020 08:04

Oh bless you, didn't get the good nights sleep you were hoping for then 🤦🏼‍♀️😩 you must be knackered!

But...this is a good sign 🤞🏻😃 hang on in there OP! You will soon meet your baby 👶🏼❤️🥰🥰🥰

wannabemummy123 · 13/07/2020 08:32

@TJ17 they won't check me until 1pm if I've progressed because it was a 24 hour pessary. I've now got an upset stomach too. And I'm so tired. So hungry but have no appetite xxx

Eurgh so frustrating 😩 it's good something is happening now though. Sending hugs ❤️

Showmethecake · 13/07/2020 09:19

Keep going OP! It won’t be long and you’ll meet your baby soon

charley39 · 13/07/2020 11:29

Pessary went in at 12pm baby was born by 22.30pm that night but within an hour of it being in I was in agony. Kept telling the midwifes I felt it was contractions but they said they wouldn’t check me before 24 hours for risk of the pessary falling out and then the labour can stop. Luckily I kept insisting something was going on and they finally examined me. Trust your body. Good luck OP!x

Hollywhiskey · 13/07/2020 11:39

How can they not examine you for 24 hours! My baby was born by then! If you think you've progressed I'd insist on getting checked. Good luck x

wannabemummy123 · 13/07/2020 12:21

My waters just went at 11.30. And the pessarie fell out ... along with a bloody show. But they examined me and I'm still barely 1cm ffs 😩

OP posts:
TJ17 · 13/07/2020 13:35

Oh brilliant news that your waters went as your body is clearly taking things into its own hands now! 😊
But to still be only 1cm is soul destroying. I know the feeling well because with my first I felt like I was in sooo much pain and thinking it must be over soon then being told I was still only about 1.5cm (I'm sure they added the 0.5 on just to make me feel better 🤣)

It really isn't easy but hang on in there, your baby will come Grin can't be much longer now 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 thinking of you!

Do you know when they will send you down and your fiancé can be with you?

Spam88 · 13/07/2020 13:51

Don't be disheartened! I was 2cm when they examined me a few hours after I took my pessary out. Couldn't believe it, I was in so much pain and still so far to go. But by the time I got to the labour ward (literally across the corridor) I was fully dilated.

Remember that the whole aim of what they've been doing was to get your cervix open enough to break your waters. Job done 👍 hopefully you'll progress naturally now, otherwise they'll put you on the drip I assume.

20viona · 13/07/2020 14:04

OP I went from 3cm to
Baby in arms in 2 hours when my waters broke so it might not be too far away!

misstoblerone85 · 13/07/2020 15:23

With my first I went in at 1:30 to be checked and I was 1cm and sent home. Baby born at 6:40 and my waters hadn't gone.

Don't be disheartened I think your are closer than you think. Good luck and try to keep mobile and upright, it helps move things along

Redruby25 · 13/07/2020 15:34

Went in on the Tuesday to be induced, had the pessary inserted late morning, very slight cramp feelings, but nothing else. Then in the early hours of Wednesday morning my waters broke, was like a flood, didn't know what to expect as first baby. Quite a lot of pain and cramps after that, but still nothing else. Then put on the drip to try to move things forward, had to have an epidural because I was told that the drip can cause contractions to come on thick and fast, and I assumed because they were backing up for the outcome being a c section, they tried throughout the late afternoon with the drip, but the babies heartbeat was becoming less and less, and they thought even untraceable at some points, especially when they upped the dose, which apparently will often cause the babies heart rate to drop, but they need to up the drip to get you anywhere near something happening, but then it becomes risky of course, so they had to stop, and I was then brought forms to read and sign to have an emergency c section, and down I went, and baby was delivered.

I hope that helps and gives an insight in to where things can lead to, and I hope I have not said anything that might scare or worry you etc, they induce people all the time, not read through to see if you've updated as yet, but hope all is going well?!

wannabemummy123 · 13/07/2020 16:27

I will be getting examined at 6pm to see next movements. I have been getting contractions all day still. Very painful.
