I gave birth to my DD on friday and resulted in a 2nd degree tear due to speed, rather than size.
Someone told me that a few days later it would feel like sitting on thorns and they werent wrong.
How long will it feel like this for? It stings a lot when i pee but managed the other ok sorry tmi.
I struggle to get up from breast feeding.
Im bathiing twice a day with lavender, and trying to stay as clean as possible.
Would it be better to let air but still bleding.
Any help would be great.

My bleeding lasted for weeks defo 3 maybe more. It was v heavy to begin with but settled down to more of a period after about a week.

lornaloo · 27/09/2007 19:28

Each day it gets better though

Bleeding will be anything up to 6 weeks but stops being quite so major after a week - 10 days, iirc.

I had some things called Feme Pads that DH bought from Boots and they were fantastic! They're like a gel pad but long and thin, you put them in the fridge to cool then slip a gauze cover over them and pop them in your knickers - instant bliss . The covers are disposable so it doesn't matter if they get covered in blood and you can buy extra covers. They're also good because they give you a bit more padding when you sit down. I found the best time to put one in was as I sat down to feed, it made things a lot comfier.

Mine hurt for about a week and then the midwife took the stitches out rather than wait for them to dissovle and that made all the difference. It was still a bit achy for a few days but not that sharp pain and feeling of being tugged around that you get with stitches.

I did the lavender bath thing too but I am not sure it helped other than to keep everything very clean.

Bleeding lasted about a week for DS1 and 10 days for DS2. No idea if that is normal.

niece thats seems v short bleed u lucky thing .

I know that as far as pads go you cant get any with plastic base as that makes you sweat whixh doesnt help. I got unicem ones from chemist v thick which helped.

Niecie · 27/09/2007 20:30

DS2 looked like it was going to be 5 days - almost gone but I overdid it and it started up again and seemed to drag on another 5 or so days . Is that not normal then?

lornaloo · 27/09/2007 20:51

I dont think its abnormal just loads shorter than me. I bled for what seemed like months, prob more like 3 or more weeks.

KristinaM · 27/09/2007 20:55

I bled for 9 weeks after first vaginal delivery. I found it very traumatic and difficult to look aftre teh stiches

i complained to Mw and she said it was normal - that 6-8 weeks was average. Sigh

it was much shorter after c/s, about 4 weeks i think. though it was easier after cs having stiches and horrid great rubbing soggy pads in two diffenet places

yuck yuck yuck

sorry for typing baby in lap

My mum bought me a feme-pad before I had DD saying 'I wish they'd invented these when I had you'! (At the time I didn't realise quite what she meant - I was blissfully ignorant about the effects of childbirth as I had planned the perfect waterbirth, which didn't happen.) It was brilliant and I used it loads.

The doctor who repaired my 3rd degree tear told me to pee in the shower, though obviously you can't spend all day having showers just so you can pee! But I always used the shower head after I went to the loo and that really helped.

My bleeding lasted 8 weeks after birth.

Hope you're beginning to feel less sore now
