Anyone had a home birth with severe PGP/SPD?

Just that really, did you tell your midwife and was the home birth still given the ok to go ahead? Or did they say no because of that?

31 weeks and planning on a home birth; I had moderate PGP during my first pregnancy but it's a lot worse during this second pregnancy, to the point where on bad days I'm using crutches and my DH is having to help me up the stairs etc. I haven't told my MW about it yet for two reasons;

  1. There's nothing they can do to help. I already have a pair of crutches and I won't get a physio referral with CV19 - I know this because I didn't get a referral first time round when services weren't stretched to the absolute hilt, and,
  2. I'm worried it's going to affect my chances of having a home birth if I complain about it.

I'm otherwise having a very low risk, complication free pregnancy as I did with my first. My first was born extremely quickly hence the reason for choosing a home birth this time round as there are genuine concerns I wouldn't make it to the hospital in time.

I've researched online and can't find anything suggesting having a home birth with PGP would be detrimental to the baby so I wanted to see if anyone in here has had advice either way/experienced it themselves?

Mine wasnt severe but I aure as hell knew about it. Had no problems in labour and pain instantly goes the second the baby comes out.

I cant see why it would be detrimental to baby and would have just thought it would be painful for you.

The things that helped me were sitting on a carrier bag in the car so it helped me twist to get out. Sit on a ball as often as possible. I had my tea on mine and keep legs as close together as possible.

You need to put it in your birth plan so they know how far you can open your legs.

Good luck x

Thanks for replying @Laylor Good tip about the car seat too! Strangely enough the pain isn't anywhere near as bad today as it had been the last few days so I'll see how I am closer to my due date and hope labour catches me on a good day...

I have had two home births and SPD/PGP so bad I was referred for physio, hydrotherapy and signed off work for the majority of my pregnancies - it made no difference to the fact I had home births and the midwifes had no concerns about allowing them

Yes, twice!
Good luck!

Yes, there times! My spd/pgp was worst in my first pregnancy but the only issue with the home birth was convincing the midwife I'd be able to get in and out of the birthing pool.
I would recommend a pool as it allows you to move much more easily during labour.
My second stages have always been quick and I wonder if it was because of the pgp (or perhaps just luck).
Don't let it stop you getting help if you need it in the meantime though.
Good luck.

It's so good to hear you've all had successful home births with PGP! That's really reassured me, thank you Smile xx

Yes, I was on crutches and could barely walk but the birth was fine

Good luck :)
