Second baby, already 38.5 weeks. Keep having these tightenings for the past 2 weeks. Sometimes 4/5 an hour. Didn't have any in my first pregnancy. Anyone else had them?

It's very common, so I believe! I was never aware of BH with either of mine and so feel somewhat cheated, that I've missed out on something!

BetsyBoop · 25/09/2007 09:33

didn't even know what BH was first time round

this time I've been having loads from about 28wks

I'm 35wks now & they are getting quite uncomfortable. I often get a run of 7 or 8 in an hour, usually when I've been running round after 21month old DD & in need of a rest

Klaw · 25/09/2007 19:41

apparently they get stronger with each subsequent pg (as your body gets more experienced, I guess)

ChasingSquirrels · 25/09/2007 19:43

dc1 - none that I knew were bh's at the time.
dc2 - from 20 weeks, getting to about 5/6 an hour every hour by about 28 weeks, god I was glad when he was born.

Skyler · 25/09/2007 19:48

Had loads. More with dd2 who then went overdue. They can hurt can't they. Totally normal though

puffylovett · 25/09/2007 19:50

tes loads, and everyone i know who's had lots has gone on to have natural easy quick labours - they're exercising your uterus in preparation for birth.

eldestgirl · 25/09/2007 19:51

Agree with puffy!

sarahloumadam · 25/09/2007 19:53

Oooo puffy I could kiss you - I have been secretly hoping that loads of BHs means an easy(ish) labour . I do find that I have less when I make an effort to drink more water tho.

xXxamyxXx · 25/09/2007 20:03

have to agree had a very short easy labour thou ds was only 5.3 so probably made the job easier!!

puffylovett · 25/09/2007 20:54

water is the nectar of gods.. all muscles need oxygen to function, water is full of O2 and the uterus is a muscle. i did 3 litres while in labour ! (well it kept dp busy)

raspberry leaf tabs are brilliant too, we all took 2 of the Biohealth ones per day

ChasingSquirrels · 25/09/2007 22:51

ok, you want more ancedotal evidence of lots of bh's = quick labours?
dc2 was a 15 minute labour

orangecat · 26/09/2007 20:54

Please let this be true. Have been getting lots of BH too and didn't notice any last time around. Keep hoping it means baby imminent but these things don't always follow...

mistypeaks · 26/09/2007 21:08

I had a few BH (that I noticed) with DD1 and LOADS from 30 wks with dd2 - was convinced I was in labour more than once with her. DD1 was a 76hr labour with emergency c-section. DD2 was 9hrs and flew out really easily. (I think she would have been even quicker if midwife wouldn't have been so insistent on not giving me another exam before the 4 hr mark. In hindsight the vile pain I was experiencing and trying to avoid was her head in my pelvis!!!
