So then, what can I expect from an 'elective' c-section?

I've got three weeks till my c-section, last time Dd1 had a very traumatic entrance into the world which ended in an emergency c-section which I remember very little about. This time (due to several factors) I've been advised to have an 'elective' section.
It all seems very close now and I realise I know nothing about what will happen. Can anyone enlighten me? What on earth do I have to take in my 'labour' bag?

Thank you (Wow - crying inside? That must have been weird, yet lovely!)

It feels v weird during the delivery because the table is tilted so much and your legs are dead, you're just convinced you'll fall off it! It took a while to get DS out because his shoulders were broad - the surgeon had to get her foot up on the table to wriggle and pull him out, didn't add to my instability fears. I got to hold him as soon as he was wiped up but was woozy and convinced I'd let go and he'd roll off too so I made my sister take him!
I let the mw dry-shave me beforehand, it was fine, better than I would have managed.

Oh yes the trapped wind loosening up just as mil arrives to visit new grandson .
You dont really need a labour bag, I took a big bag for a 5 day stay and left it on the ward. I think we took a little hat and babygrow up to the theatre but he was 9lbs so came down to the ward in a nappy and piece of tubigrip on his head
Oh and the scrubs and little surgical clogs was the first time I have ever seen my dp in a co-ordinating outfit
You can look fab for the post birth photos cos you haven't been sweating and grunting for hours (like I was with ds1, deleted em all).
Its nice to have your bed already with all your stuff there when you come down with baby instead of arriving in a ward at 5am and can't find anything you need in your bag.
But boy its hard nil by mouth all day for an elective at lunchtime when you've been used to eating for two all those months!!
