I have one!
I was induced just after two weeks past my due date. Hospital wanted me in a week before but I had Uni exams and wanted to finish those first...
I was induced and 4 hours later to the minute was holding my daughter! It all happened so fast it was insane.

mrssunshinexxx · 18/06/2020 17:28

Thanks @bungleZippy12 was that just from the pessary or drip too ? Any pain relief , tears ? X

Yes! I had one on my due date due to a medical condition. Pessary in at 4pm, slept all night, slight contractions by about 5am, down to the labour ward at 8, they broke my waters , went on syntocin drip at noon, had done peregrine at 5 when the pushing started, baby out at 6pm. Totally manageable. Baby 2 was induced too, pessary in at 4, bit of sleep, period type pains about 4, strong contractions by 5, baby out after three pushes at 7am. I was delighted because I was expecting it to take all day again!!

38 +2 (reduced movements and LGA), 25 hours from pessary gel to baby...

Most of which was niggly cramps. Labour started kicking in after 2nd dose of gel 8 hrs after first dose.

Labour followed same pattern as my first baby (spontaneous, 2lbs smaller). Ventouse for induced DC was easier than for spontaneous one.

Waters went on their own once labour kicked in, no need for the drip...

bungleZippy12 · 18/06/2020 18:19

Sorry yes, forgot to include that. I had the pessary and my waters were broken as it wasn’t working. Once my waters were broken, it was 4 hours afterwards. Aka very fast!

mrssunshinexxx · 18/06/2020 18:35

Eek nervous

Hoping she comes on her own before next sat x

My experience was positive 😊 Pessary didn't do much but when they ruptured the membranes everything went smoothly. She was out in 2 pushes, no instruments/assistance required, small tear but nothing to write home about. Honestly I was terrified but it went better than my other labour when it all started off naturally 😂

ChalkDinosaur · 19/06/2020 23:35

Yep! Pessary in at 2am, contractions from 6am, 4cm at 12.30pm, baby at 3pm. TENS machine and gas and air. I had a ventueous delivery but honestly it was such a positive experience. I was really worried about being induced but I really needn't have been. Good luck Smile

mynameisigglepiggle · 19/06/2020 23:42

One spontaneous labour and two inductions.
Both inductions very positive experiences!
The aim of the pessary is to get you to 3 cm so your waters can be broken.
That process can take a while so be prepared. Enjoy the calm before the storm. No 2 I went into hospital Monday and she was born weds teatime but waters weren't broken til weds late morning.
No3 went in Thursday afternoon. Waters broken around 3am sat morning and he was born at 7am after a few puffs of gas and air. My active labour was recorded as 8 minutes!!
It always sounds "wanky" but saying calm and concentrating on your breathing really helps.

sooveritalready · 19/06/2020 23:49

Mine was much slower, first pessary in Saturday 11am, baby born Tuesday at 8pm! It was slow and tedious and boring but never frightening or painful so wanted to reassure about that even if it's not quick.
Pessarys didn't do much for me so waters were broken under gas and air on Tuesday am, had epidural and drip and natural labour with tear.
I'd always describe as positive as I found antenatal care much better than postnatal and felt very well looked after, just bored of bouncing on a birthing ball and walking!

Joiningthegossip · 19/06/2020 23:50

Yes!
Had a pessary induction at 38weeks,

Pessary in at 11pm, slept the night, waters broke 7am, slight cramping for the morning, 12pm I was suddenly in a lot of pain but the midwife told me I'm not in established labour and to wait whilst she done her paperwork......!!

3pm she was born, then we went home that evening, so we were in & out within 24hrs.

I learnt second time to be stronger and make my feelings more known to the midwife, maybe she was having an off day.

2nd baby was natural and born in 2hrs!

Both times just gas & air, I honestly loved giving birth and I'm sad I won't be doing it again :(

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 19/06/2020 23:56

Mine was very positive. Induced at 40+2 due to ivf. 24hr Pessary in at 11am. Mild cramping period pains style at 6pm. More period pains around 11pm had two paracetamol and a bath which helped. 1am waters went in an epic fashion. Was 2cm dilated. Moved to labour ward husband called. 3am 5cm dilated contractions thick and fast had diamorphine. 5am felt the need to push. Diamorphine worn off asked for epidural but when checked was fully dilated so not time. Started to push but contractions eased off. Had the drip put in on low dose to get contractions going again. My beautiful baby was born at 6.30am. So 17 hrs after Pessary first went in.

Wishing you lots of luck

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 19/06/2020 23:57

Also I didn’t need my waters breaking manually they went on their own

Dontstepinthecowpat · 19/06/2020 23:58

Yes, I’ve been induced with all 4, all good, vaginal deliveries between 38-42 weeks.

Good luck!

Yes. I was induced with my first, post dates yet zero signs of anything happening naturally. I had the pessary in about tea time, contractions started very early morning, 3 and a half hour labour with gas and air.

Mutedgrey · 20/06/2020 00:12

2 pessarys. Nothing happened. Felt despairing. Then waters broke and stuff moved fast enough they held off the drip. 12 hours later my son was born. Didn’t need any help after the pessarys.

mrssunshinexxx · 20/06/2020 07:12

Thanks everyone they all sound as positive as possible not looking forward to it potentially taking days but then it might not x

4am pessary 1
2pm pessary 2
9.30pm had my waters broken
11.50pm baby in my arms

Pessarys Got me dilated to 3cm with no pains. Once they broke my waters I basically had 2 hours of agony but it was quick. I'd take that induction over waiting a long time any day.

Persipan · 20/06/2020 09:20

I was induced a week early for various reasons.

9.30 pessary
22.45 waters broke on their own
00.00ish had some paracetamol and dihydrocodeine, and went and had a bath
1.00ish was 9cm dilated and got taken up to labour ward. Had some gas and air.
2.20 started pushing
4.04 baby born

I had a bit of second degree tearing but nothing to write home about. The time between my waters breaking and starting to push was fairly uncomfortable; the pushing itself was actually surprisingly manageable. I ended up in stirrups, which I wouldn't have thought I'd want (much like induction, they're one of those things that everyone makes out to be Awful and Dreadful and Positively Barbaric) but the midwife encouraged me to try as she felt it might be helpful and apparently it was!

The whole thing was a very positive experience. I'd happily have another induction (which is a good job because I'd have the same factors in place that made it appropriate this time, were I ever to have another baby).
