Post Partum Haemorrage, 3rd degree tears - the joys of childbirth!

My first labour lasted 48 hours from first horrific contraction to the last. It was an unassisted delivery. I pushed for 45 minutes. I had an epidural. I had an extended episiotiomy and a third degree tear. Then I had a PPH and had to go to theatre for repairs and a blood transfusion. I lost 1500ml of blood.
I am going over my notes with a midwife next week, but would like to hear from anyone who had a similar experience with their first (and then an easier time with their second). Am obviously worried about a repeat performance when I have another bambino.

Hiya, I had a similar experience to you, very long exhausting labour, baby was eventually delivered by forceps, then had a PPH of 3 litres. To top it all off I then developed an infection in my episiotomy.

I have been assured by my GP, midwife and consultant that I was very unlucky and that it is very unlikely that this would happen again. I will let you know however because I am due DC2 in 12 days time. Honestly, I am scared but I know that it is unlikely to be as difficult this time around and I will make sure that all care providers are aware of the previous difficulties.

Sorry if I haven't really answered your question properly.

I had a PPH of 1500ml after an induced labour that went on for just under 72 hours ended up with forceps. I am now 3 days overdue with 2nd have a planned homebirth- I spoke to the consultant midwife who said that my PPH was due to:
1 First baby
2 Induction
3 Being on a drip
4 Having forceps
5 Long labour

She said although my risks where higher of it happening again as I had a previous history she was happy for me to go for a homebirth as the 1st 4 reasons wouldnt be present at a homebirth- normally 2nd labours are quicker but we would transfer if it was another long labour.

Good luck

I had PPH losing 4pts of blood with DS1, was hooked up to a drip second time, which they started as DS2 was born, so only lost 1pt that time. Am 31 weeks pg with third child, I'm too chicken to entertain a homebirth (plus they wouldn't let me) as I live in a village in the middle of nowhere. My second birth was an amazing experience and helped erase some of the mental scars from the first time.
