Did a course of antibiotics sort your x section infection?

Hello!

I had a baby a week ago via planned section. A couple days ago, the wound became a bit sticky with some discharge. It's not a lot and there is no redness or pain. My swab came back that the wound is indeed infected.

It's really stressing me out! Has anyone had this and if so, did a simple round of antibiotics sort it out? I made the mistake of googling section wound infections 🥴

Thanks.

Title should obviously say C Section!

Ooh no, step away from google! I made the same mistake Grin

I had exactly the same experience as you bar the swab. I started on one antibiotic which didn’t help and was one of those ones where you can’t eat for two hours before and an hour after or something daft. I was going insane with hunger while trying to feed a newborn. Switched to a different one was it was improving within two or three doses.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and congrats on your baby!

I did have a lot of pain, so it’s good you’ve caught yours so early.

Hello, yes the same thing happened to me although mine was inflamed and hot to the touch as well. The antibiotics worked quickly, a load of gunk came out of the wound and it healed up very nicely!

Yep it did and mine was a pretty complicated wound we're my body rejected dissolvable stitches so I had little holes on my belly for a bit, I had an antibiotic cream also as it was quite bad. A mild infection like yours should very easily clear up with antibiotics

Thank you. That's really reassuring! Was imagining being opened back up and all sorts!

Congrats on your arrival!

I ended up with 2 different infections so had 2 courses of anti-Bs. My wound also opened up in several places so was constantly being redressed as well and there was never any talk of restitching me or opening me up.

Keep it as dry as possible. If you aren’t airing it then put gauze on top of the scar to soak up any moisture. It’s the moist environment thanks to the belly overhang that makes the area susceptible to infection.

Thanks for the advice and for sharing your experience. Makes me feel better! Really trying to air dry it thoroughly. I'm showering each morning and night and patting dry with a clean flannel then air drying fully each time.

Yes, eventually. Took a while and couple of different antibiotics but then healed ok.

Mine did. What I found amazing was lying with a fan blowing over the infected wound. Only time I was comfortable!
