Can you tell me about your preterm labour experience

I'm 33 weeks, and for the last week I've woken up 3 times in the early morning (6ish am) with period pains, which are quite intense but not drastically painful. I do feel a bit of nausea whilst having them. And I have to move about and focus on breathing to be relatively comfortable.

It seems to last a few hours and then tapers off.
I also get painless Braxton Hicks when I'm active, but I don't really get them when the period type pain is happening.

I'm going to mention it to my midwife next week, but I'm assuming since they don't amount to anything, that it's nothing to worry about?

Baby is active, and was active this morning when the cramps were happening. He is not in head down position yet, he is lying transverse.

Everything I read on Google points to preterm labour Sad but as it goes away after a few hours, I can't see how it could be.
Does preterm labour last for weeks? Is my body just preparing and it's just another type of Braxton Hicks?

Hiya, not exactly the same as your experience but didnt want your post to go unanswered.

I gave birth at 36 weeks, induced due to suspected placental failure (type 1 diabetes). It was a forceps delivery but it was fine, I'm fine, baby was fine and didnt need anything apart from some UV for jaundice.

33 weeks is early, but dont panic, it is moderate/late preterm, not super early.

Did you see your midwife?

OP I experienced the symptoms you are describing. I’m not a MW but based on my personal experience they do sound like extremely early labour symptoms. But don’t panic as early labour can last for ages. I had those symptoms for a week and my cervix didn’t even change! In the end I was induced as I was post-term.

Definitely worth mentioning to the midwife though to get her perspective. Have you spoken to her?

Thanks all! Still pregnant here Grin ...The period like pains did stop, not had them for a few days. Back to intense BH only so I assume it was just a blip? Seeing midwife next week so will mention it x
