Post c-section support bands/pants

Hi,

I've read a lot of mixed reviews regarding belly bands and support pants for after a c section.

I'm due to have one this week and wondering whether something like this would be a good investment?

I've read many say that it's best to let the muscles work on their own, so to avoid a band but then I've also read that it can be so helpful in aiding movement after the section as it offers support when doing very basic tasks.

It's also likely that it'll potentially be uncomfortable and rub.

Thoughts?

Following as I'm looking into these as well.

Didn't wear one and don't know anyone who has........sorry to not be more helpful!
I wouldn't bother x

pianopants · 28/05/2020 12:24

Thanks @fuuuuuuck it seems either women are really into them or they're not. I'm in tomorrow so probably a bit late in the day anyway.

All the best for tomo and the next few days. I didn't ever feel I needed any support from a band so I'd say you'll be fine x take care

I bought one determined to use it, but found it really uncomfortable so stopped after 2-3 days. Healed absolutely fine after the section, no issues with the wound and my stomach was completely flat again after 4ish weeks. I think some people like them for the support they offer, but I couldn't think of anything worse in the current heat

pianopants · 28/05/2020 16:35

That is a very fair point @rottiemum88! I'm struggling in the heat as it is so probably best to avoid the faff and sweat 😕

Just an update that after having my c section yesterday, there's no chance in hell I'd want to be wearing a belly band!

Hope all went well with the Cesarean @pianopants and congrats on the new baby! I'm not far behind you in Monday!

MsChatterbox · 30/05/2020 16:13

Congratulations!

In case you change you mind this is what I used... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LL04PV2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_FFN0EbMRZ75EN

It reduced my pain massively.

pianopants · 30/05/2020 16:49

Hey @LillianFullStop. Cesarean itself was fine but I took a reaction to the morphine about 7 hours after and was violently sick which was hell on earth with the wound! Just trying to get discharged now as I've not been seen in a few hours and would love a nap!

Eek @pianopants - is that morphine they give you after the procedure or they've given it to you during the surgery? I got given anti-sickness medication to take the night before and the morning of but I guess it had worn off for you if it was 7 hours later.

Lack of sleep seems to be a common theme in the post natal wards ... i hope you can get discharged soon and you can get some sleep at home in your own bed tonight!

congratulations! i didn’t use a support band so can’t say anything about that, but the best advice some one gave me after my section was to wear big pants and stick a sanitary towel to the inside of the pants where your incision is so that the pad cushions the incision and nothing rubs against it. honestly the best advice i’ve ever received!
