How long did it take you to heal down there?

Hi! I gave birth to our first DC 3 months ago. Sex is still quite painful for me which has upset me a little bit just now, afterwards. I am getting my orgasms back, they’re not quite as they were yet but getting there, but I think it’s because I’m tensing up and I’m not 100% focused. It hurts because it feels so tight and I also don’t think I’m getting wet enough. I am exclusively breastfeeding so that’s probably the answer for those. But maybe I’m not 100% healed yet either? It’s only been 3 months, but then that’s quite a while. I don’t know much about vaginal healing though lolBlush
Me and my fiancé started having sex again since 5 weeks postpartum. We haven’t been having sex loads though so I don’t think it’s an irritation thing. Things are getting better down below but I just don’t know if they should still be hurting. So what can I do about it?! Is it simply just a slow process and we should use lube and maybe I go to the doctors for an estrogen cream?
Advice and experiences would be so much appreciated. Thank you!!

Oh sorry I should probably add that I only had minor grazes to heal from!

This is probably more to do with breastfeeding hormones than healing from the birth. I'm not sure if you can get estrogen cream prescribed for this, but that might be something to try alongside lube etc.

Everyone's different I suppose 😃

@PhoenixBuchanan thank you, it probably is! I plan to breastfeed my daugher for at least a year and she is only 3 months lol so would like a solution to make sex more comfortable in the mean time. Probs worth a chat with the GP then eh Smile
And yes @akens definitely!

I had a second degree tear and started having sex again at about 8 weeks ish because I felt okay. It was a little gingerly but plenty of lube is all I can advise!

I have no idea if I've healed as no one has checked it but just go with how you feel and try and relax, maybe do things beforehand that will help you feel less tense

I saw a private women's health physio who was wonderful, it took me a long time to heal due to complications so don't think that would be a problem foryou but it really helped to have confidence, get advice and a check up.

I didn’t have anything to heal but sex did feel a bit weird to start with. Tight and just a bit strange. Definitely struggled with lubrications (BF) and worrying about baby waking up.
I’m still EBF but at 8 months things are 100% normal physically (still sometimes struggle to relax as listening out for baby).

Thank you everyone! Time really is a healer it seems. I guess I’m just a little worried (sometimes) that this is just how it is now. But my rational mind knows it isn’t - it’s only been 3 months since I gave birth! Just need to use lube and wait... lol

If it helps at all, I had a planned section first time round, and sex was difficult for ages, I think because I was BF. Causes vaginal dryness. Spoke to the GP in the end - was prescribed something called Replens - can actually get it over the counter, though I didn't know this before. It did help, though lots of lube does too.
