Giving birth with an existing prolapse

Hi, I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with my second baby. I suffered a grade 2 prolapse (rectocele) with my first birth and now I'm worried a natural birth will worsen this prolapse or cause prolapse of something else. Can anyone let me know their experience if you have gone through this too, as I'm considering trying to have a c section as it really affected me mentally with my first child. Thanks in advance xx

Hi @Brownie89

Sorry, I don't have any experience of your situation but didn't want to leave your post unanswered. In your situation, I wouldn't hesitate to request a CS. Although it comes with its own risks, I'd be reluctant to attempt another VB with your existing condition.

I'm having an ELCS in 3 weeks (this is my first baby). I decided on a section after doing extensive research around possible birth related injuries and I'm more comfortable with the risks associated with a CS than a VB x

Hi there,

I had an ELCS with my now 10 month old as I had a 3c tear with my first and have lasting issues because of it. I know it's not exactly the same and that we will have different health trusts but my consultant said no choice but to go with the c section - up until that appt I'd been agonising over the decision without anticipating that it would be largely out of my hands. Although it took me a long time to come to terms with the section I'm very grateful that it prevented the issues from getting worse - hope that helps.

If you're on Facebook, there is a page called Association of Pelvic Organ Prolapse society, if you ask there, you will get lots of support.

The general answer seems to be that it affected some people negatively, but other people noticed no difference after a second / third vaginal birth with previous prolapse. Unfortunately there is no way to tell which category you will fall into.

Just double checked, the S stands for support, not society!
