Elcs during covid

Hi 2nd baby first was emcs after undiagnosed breech and 40hrs of Labour. This baby is breech too was told I could have an ecv but due to previous section was told just before procedure that I couldn't. I'm really sad about it to be honest as I'd love a vbac.

Anyone could people please give me some stories of their elcs recently please? Just want to get my head round the restrictions, the procedure and how quickly I can get home. I recovered amazingly well and quickly last time.

Just had mine. Was brilliant. My last birth was vaginal, induced, stuck baby and horrific - this one was the most quiet, calm, brilliant birth. Home in 24 hrs. Minimal pain. Up and about. Wish I’d had previous csec it’s that good! Husband came for csec and all my recovery after (4 hrs tea and toast etc) which was great. I then went up to the ward and ate, got my legs back, showered, changed, fed and had a sleep then woke up and went home.

Following as I'm due to have my ELCS in just over 2 weeks

I had mine Thursday got to hospital at 12 partner scrubbed up went down to theatre had baby by 2pm. Partner was only allowed to stay around 45 mins afterwards. Recovery was good staff really helpful, was free to go after 24 hours but chose to stay another night to recover as I have 2 other small children at home x

I'm really struggling with the fact that I'm not being able to have the birth of my choice. This will be my second section, first was an emergency after 40 hrs of labour they then realised ds was breech.

I'd really hoped for a natural labour this time and feel very disconnected from the idea of a c section. I feel really sad about it.

I know that all that matters is baby is here and healthy but this will be my last baby.

Sorry very self indulgent. Thanks everyone for letting me know your experiences. It doesn't seem like dh will get much time with us post birth which is sad but at least I'll get some time with baby to bond before returning home to the madness.

I'm not looking forward to the post natal ward as I had a truly awful time on the ward last time which is also playing on my mind.

You will be fine and it will be over and done with before you know it and you will be back home in no time, and once little one is gazing up at you it won’t matter how they got here x

What was the PPE like on the postnatal ward? That’s the bit that freaks me out, being in such close proximity to others and risk of catching the virus.

georgiams · 18/05/2020 19:46

Just a surgical mask gloves and apron x

Kodiak83 · 18/05/2020 20:29

Thanks @georgiams. And we’re the mums expected to wear anything? Did you notice any extra hygiene protocols, like extra care with meals that were delivered or hand wash etc? I sound ridiculous I’m sure!

georgiams · 18/05/2020 20:47

Me and my partner had to wear masks on the way to theatre during and back to the post natal ward but not other than that. I saw a lot of extra hand washing and gloves and aprons were changed after each person I believe any other questions just ask xx
