Day two of induction and feeling super demotivated

I’m 37+4 with my first baby, and was admitted to hospital on Tuesday for observation due to protein in my urine.

Since they think it’s preeclampsia, they need me to stay in and yesterday they tried to induce with tablets, without success. Today I spent 6 hours on a drip - nothing. They just inserted a pessary and hope that contractions might start in the next 12-24 hours.

My husband was allowed to come in today but had to leave again when it was clear the drip wasn’t going to work. I just feel so down and fed up. I had hoped labor would start naturally and I could stay home as long as possible.

Now I feel like it’s just an endless changing list of interventions that my body isn’t ready for. Feel completely demotivated before labor has even begun.

Would love to hear some words of wisdom!

No words of wisdom but couldn't read and run - I really hope things start to kick in for you soon. I was induced and remember two days of skull-sapping boredom... But hey, at least you know you're leaving hospital with your baby, no matter how long it takes!

I was given the pessary straight away when I had my induction for preE, my waters broke spontaneously 14 hours later and DS was born another 15 hours after that. I was 39 weeks and there was no sign he was ready to budge on his own.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you from here 😊 in the end all that matters is your little one arrives safely, try not to dwell on what might have been with regard to your birth plan. They're an exercise in futility more often than not

Thank you both for your kind words! And thanks for sharing your induction story TeddyBeans.

I’ll try and focus on my baby. He better be really cute! Hoping that tomorrow brings productive contractions!

I was 37+5 when I was induced due to a problem with DS kidneys. I went into hospital Monday, had pessary and sweep.... Nothing. Tuesday had more of the same and still nothing. Wednesday I was desperate (I hate hospitals and had wanted a water birth at home) so discussed c section but was persuaded not to by a lovely midwife who broke my waters late morning and hooked me up to the drip late afternoon. DS was born 10:30pm that night, natural birth with no complications. He just wasn't ready to come out and didn't want to budge! Once things got moving on the Wednesday I felt more in control, but you have my sympathies as the two days before were just miserable. Fingers crossed things happen for you soon!

I had grand plans of beautiful calm water birth no intervention etc, but when it came to it I couldn't even use birthing ball and had to lie on my back in the bed. However by that stage I just went with it and it was fine! I have no regrets at all. Lower your expectations, go with the flow and know that this is what's best for both of you right now even if it's not what nature intended to happen.

My induction took 5 days (2 lots of 24 hour pessaries, 24 hour cook balloon, half a day wait for a room on labour ward and taken up there at 1am).

I was 36 weeks, no sign of baby budging whatsoever. I lost my shit on day 4 and threatened to walk out as I was so exhausted from the 3 hourly observations and noisy ward Confused

Once they got me 1cm dilated I had ARM and got put on the drip. DD born 12 hours later.

I know it's so frustrating and tedious waiting around in hospital but it's for the best Flowers have you thought of doing a bit of mindfulness (through some earphones obviously!) to keep you calm and distracted? I was so sceptical of it, but it really works!

Good luck, keep us updated if you can xx

dancingmama · 07/05/2020 21:22

Don't feel disheartened! Inductions can take time - mine did. And even when it started I was stuck at 4cm for 18 hours... then I went from 4cm to 10cm and a baby in my arms within an hour. Just try to relax. It will all be fine and you'll have you baby soon. Wishing you many congratulations for when the time comes x

I got pre eclampsia at 36 wks, 2 x 24 hour pessaries that did nothing do they broke my waters at 1cm, then put me on the drip for about 12 hrs at the max level. I got to 3cm over the 3 days and they gave in and said pack your bags well pop back in an hour and take you to theatre. Just in case yours goes that way my c section was a lovely calm experience, staff were great, no rushing and we had the radio on. I had planned on a water birth so just wanted to say even if you end up with all the interventions and the complete opposite to your birth plan it's still a magical moment!

Temple29 · 07/05/2020 21:58

I was induced at 37+5 for preeclampsia. They broke my waters for me 24 hours after the pessary was put in and DS was born 8 hours later 😊 wishing you all the best!

20viona · 08/05/2020 08:48

Nothing happened for me until they broke my waters, I had had 2 pessarys and was 37+4 like you. No pains until They broke my waters and my daughter was born 2 hours later.

TeddyBeans · 09/05/2020 16:55

@escocesita hope you're enjoying new baby cuddles right now ❤️❤️

escocesita · 09/05/2020 18:17

I am!!!

The good news is he is here and he is lovely!

The less good news is that although the pessary inserted on day 3 worked and my waters broke, he got stuck in the final stages and arrived via c section after 9 hours of active labour.

Thank you for all your kind and supportive messages. It really made a difference to me going into the third induction day more positively. It was just unlucky it didn’t work out as planned. And the main thing is we are both safe and well!

Aww congratulations! He's just scrummy ❤️ I'm sorry things didn't go according to plan but at least you're both safe and healthy! Enjoy you little man
