Full moon

There's a full moon on Thursday...I don't actually believe it has any effect on kick-starting labour but please tell me your stories of how it does...I'm so ready for this baby to be ejected!

Cannot comment personally on this -I have to confess that I have not heard this before, but things do coincide with a full moon! As a keen sea angler I can tell you that big spring tides which coincide with a full or new moon do lead to increased fish activity and productive fishing sessions. Equally, as a horticulturalist and grower, germination of seeds and plant growth also increases exponentially at these times. Who knows, there may well be more than an element of truth in it; the moon, and its phases, is very influencial in our lives, whether we are aware of it or not...

I went into labour the night of a full moon, she was born the following evening! Did also coincide with a curry, clary sage sniffing, raspberry leaf tea and the fact that it was 4 days before EDD so take from that what you will Grin

Just looked and DD was born the day before the full moon. 3 days early.

The moon shifts the oceans and our bodies are majority water so maybe there's something in it

With my first a very hippy community midwife visited us on day 5 and was harping on about how it was a full moon and the labour wards would be full. Much to DH's ridicule. Then got sent back in for DD jaundice and low and behold, the labour wards were full and not admitting any new patients.

Police cells are often full on the night of the full moon; in fact, I believe that some police forces have extra public order patrols and vans out on these occasions as the full moon does strange things to people and can cause them to behave in uncharacteristic ways. Not for nothing is the word, forgive me for this un-PC expression, 'loony' derived from 'lunar'.

Must stress that my comment about seed germination and plant growth is based soley on years of empiric observation and not science based data! The full moon is wonderful though and something to look forward to every time it reaches that phase

Beekeeper1 · 05/05/2020 20:21

Solely...not soley - getting over excited about the forthcoming full moonBlush

wineymummy · 06/05/2020 08:23

Well I will update in a few days if tomorrow's moon manages to shift this baby!

No baby exit even though I did spend most of yesterday crying hormonal tears. Cheers for nothing, moon.

Bastard moon! If it helps my moon baby also followed a day of crying hormonal tears. Maybe you even have them in your arms by now!

Unfortunately not! 😟

I remember arriving at the hospital and the lady on the desk said something about a full moon and that's why it was so busy, I was the last person onto the midwife led unit and labour ward were telling people to go to a different hospital as they were full. DD arrived within a few hours of that, but on checking the moon calendar for that year the full moon was on the 2nd and DD was born on the 1st

MrsCl19 · 12/05/2020 06:33

There was a full moon 2 days before dd was born and we were about 10 minutes from being sent to the next hospital as our wards were full. Probably a coincidence

On the other hand my dd is now nearly 2.5 and she's horrendous the day/night of a full moon- sleep is awful!
