Oxytocin drip pain relief

I've just had my waters broken by my midwife and I'm now being given an hour to see if my contractions ramp up. If they don't I'm going to be put on an oxytocin drip and I'm after experiences/recommendations for pain relief. I'm wary of having pethidine in case I react badly to it and it's stuck in my system for four hours but I don't know if I like the thought of losing control if I have an epidural.

Hi @Serenity05, congratulations on your baby girl. Just wan to ask a quick question re waters being broken by midwife..did it hurt? i was told today that i might need an induction, and after a balloon insertion they will brake my waters..sounds awful, if i'm honest, i'm not good with the pain ..thanks.

@fool11
I was induced with the gel and had my waters broken. It did hurt for a few seconds until they got into position.. The poor midwives hand was squished. Afterwards they said I could have had gas and air.
Ask for gas and air to be on hand 😊

@fool11 it was uncomfortable more than painful. There was a bit of a twinge when the plastic hook first went in but it wasn't awful. They should offer you pain relief first though - and if they don't then ask for it. Good luck.

Thank you both, glad to hear it's not painful. I had a sweep with my dd 5y ago, which wasn't pleasant. Although I must admit, plastic hook does sound scary.. i will def ask for some pain relief or have gas and air on hand, thanks.
