Help! Induction tomorrow- worried about very limited options for birth positions if wired to a machine

Hi there! this is my first posting. I've been reading the lists for a couple of weeks since a friend told me how fab Mumsnet is and it's been SO helpful.

Now I have an urgent question - I'm due to go into hospital tomorrow for an induction and among my many fears I''m really anxious about what positions I can use if I'm wired up to a machine especially if I'm on a drip and monitors.

Does anyone have any advice? I'd be very, very glad of any tips

Thank you!

absandj i hope all is going really well for you and you have a baby already.

noname i am fascinated by your list. many things there did not happen to me, most notably a wee.

AbsandJ I hope everything went well for you with your induction, look forward to you posting the news.

fishie, sorry you feel your care was less than it could have been, hope you were able to ask any questions and get some reassurance.

One of the reasons for my rather long posting was my belief that explanations can help understanding and acceptance of/for situations.

Both times I was so absorbed in the process of labour / birth that I didn't pay any attention to the wires etc and they were constantly reconnecting and shimmying them around, so I guess they're used to it. They also didn't put in a drip first time, just a line because I was so active (no induction though). So I guess just try and forget about them is my advice.
I will say to try and ignore their requests for how you position yourself and do only what you feel you need. With ds1 once I was on my back (for an exam) that was it pretty much (last 45 minutes or so). With ds2 dh helped haul me up again and I felt much more on top of the pain and hardly suffered any after-effects after (unlike ds1, but that's another story!).
Good luck

Hi all,

I've just surfaced 3 weeks after the birth of dd. 13 days late, 7lbs, born with a full head of hair!

Thanks so much for all the lovely messages of support and advice.

The induction didn't work in the end and after 12 hours and a mere 0.5 cm dilation we went for a caesarean. No regrets there at all as baby's heartbeat was dipping in response to hormone drip.

DD gorgeous (of course!) and I'm very happy, though SO TIRED. 5 days in hospital absolutely knackering. Now having some problems with vomiting but that'll have to be a separate posting ... thank goodness for Mumsnet.
