Contact Lenses or Glasses in Labour - any thoughts?

Just over 38 weeks pregnant and being induced tomorrow due to obstetric cholestasis and suddenly thought would it be better to be wearing contact lenses, or are glasses more recommended, especially if having an emergency C-section?

I can't see a thing without my glasses, but feel they may get in the way during labour. Can't for the life of me remember whether I wore glasses or had my contact lenses in when I was induced with DD!!

unusual situation, being able to plan everything - but there has to be some upsides to induction!!

Hello! I had the same pondering before my baby was born. It wasn't a CS or induced but I still thought about it beforehand and decided on glasses.

I always generally wear lenses but thought from a comfort point of view glasses would be better and they were fine!

I wondered about this (am extremely short sighted!) but it just so happened that I was wearing my glasses at the time. I don't normally like wearing them but I don't think I was that bothered and at least I didn't have to worry about scratchy eyes...

I too am very short sighted and generally wear contact lenses.

I have no idea what I wore with either DS or DD . I think I had glasses on with DS (he was born at 2:50am so seems likely). DD was born at 1:30pm and labour started that day so could well have been wearing my lenses.

To be honest - I couldn't give a monkeys! I had other things on my mind . I didn't bother with any in the end

I wore glasses all through my failed induction which ended in c-sec. When I saw the anaesthetist when I was being prepped for theatre I asked whether I could keep my contact lenses in as I never really wear glasses. The anaesthetist was fine with it but the mw pointed out that, as my c-sec was about 1 am (and I hadn't had a lot of sleep for 4 nights) I might not feel able to take them out afterwards to sleep so did take them out and wear glasses at that point.

hi there
I had an epidural and were able to wear my contact lenses. I chose to wear my contacts because it felt to me that my glasses would be in the way.

Good luck for tomorrow

Thank you for your thoughts! can you tell I'm going for the "thinking about anything other than labour" technique of preparation!!!

I know full well when it comes down to it, it is the last thing you think about - hence why I can't remember what i did with DD!

I went in to hospital wearing glasses. Can't remember whether I wore them or not. Seeing just wasn't an issue by then. Had a c section too, but wasn't allowed to wear them in theatre I think.

I wore my contact lenses. Ddin't have a c-section though - although did have an induction to augment labour (waters had been broken for quite a while) and ended up with forceps.

I wore glasses so didn't have to worry about scratchy eyes!
Good luck for tomorrow
