Sorry, another TMI question for you all, but I'm wondering if this is as a result of my section - I'm not feeling sick or anything, just can't stop going to the loo The post-op wind is still pretty bad, too - anyone else still suffer with that 5 days on?

I did have a suppository, yes - but it was a pain-killing one, not a softener (unless the painkiller has the same effect). Am seeing the midwife tomorrow, so will ask.

I haven't had a c section, but a srerillization operation, and have too suffered terrible diarrhoea, i thought it was down to all the pain killers and strss of someone messing about with my insides

Did you have a general? My Mum had very bad diarrhoea the week after an op recently, and the GP said it was likely to be due to the anaesthetic. Why not ring your midwife/GP if you don't want to wait until tomorrow.

Tinkjon · 17/09/2007 11:38

Lilo, no I had a spinal. Yes I think Ill ring the mw, good idea. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, I'm just one of those people who likes to fret

Do ring, will put your mind at rest. A section's a major op, so probably just your body reacting.

hi tink - the anaethesia can play havoc with your digestive system. but do call someone and ask. I had a constipation day 3/4 but some natural supplement 'fibregel' i think got things moving and been ok since.

i had the suppositories and didnt suffer, but we are all different. Hope you feel better soon, make sure you are drinking plenty of water

xx

Tinkjon, are you taking ferrous sulphate iron tablets? Because although they are famous for bunging people up...they can have the opposite effect too, and give you hideous squits.
Can I also ask, were you on a drip with A/Bs at any time?
I developed really debilitating diarrhoea, and after being tested for salmonella and dysentery , it turned out the strong I/V ABs I'd been given (dd was in Special Care and I think they were worried about Strep B), had given me clostridium difficile.
If you have any reason to think any of this might apply to you, insist they do a culture (obtaining a stool sample should not be a problem you poor love).
I did manage to keep b/f through it all, it helped that dd was my second baby, but boy did I find it upsetting to be so ill with a "germy" thing and feeding a newborn, so massive sympathies from me.

I think that you can go either way after big abdominal surgery- either your intestines slow down or speed up. It could be that your pain relief is irritating your tummy too ?
Anti inflammatories such as nurofen need to be taken with food or a milky drink.
Also- were you/ are you taking antibiotics as this may be giving you some irritation.
Can you perhaps call your M/w/ GP today ?
Peppermint tea or cordial may help your trapped wind too.

Alfie72 · 17/09/2007 17:47

Maybe you could chat to your M/W , pharmacist or dr about probiotics or homeopathy- that may help your gut rebalance too.
I don't know if you are breastfeeding but if you are- I would certainly seek a professional's advice before trying anything.

daisyandbabybootoo · 17/09/2007 18:05

AFAIK they administer an IV antibiotic when you are on the table to protect against infection (at least they did with me). It's possible that this is the cause of your looseness. I would take some acidopholous tablets and live yogurt to help boost your good bacteria again.

But do call your MW if you're worried.

Congratulations on your LO and I hope you get your feeding problems resolved

Tinkjon · 17/09/2007 20:24

Marina, yes I am taking the ferrous tablets - interesting! have felt a little better today so will wait and see what the mw says tomorrow. Thanks, everybody!
