Worried baby is transverse

At my last scan 8 days ago they said baby was breech, but I'm 33 weeks now and I am sure he is actually transverse!

Due to baby likely having a cleft palate, my fluid was a little high at the last scan (not enough for the consultant to worry or even drain any, just that it was slightly raised). I've read online that too much fluid could be the cause of a transverse baby as there's lots of room in there. I also have really bad pelvic girdle pain and just standing to cook dinner causes too much pain.

Not entirely sure what my question is, but I suppose it's has enough experience this? And is it worth me calling the assessment unit about? My next scan is just over a week away but I'm worried the transverse position means my fluid has gotten higher 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi @2020babym, I’m 37.5w and my baby is transverse, has been since 34w. Before that it was all over the place, it seriously doesn’t keep still. I’ve got a scan on Wed (at 38w) and if still transverse, will follow recommendation and be admitted to hospital until birth due to risk of cord prolapse when labour starts. Im booked for cs at 39+1 and feeling fine about that after reading lots of positive elective cs stories (rather than the negative ones/emergencies)

If you go into early labour the medical advice is to get on all 4s with head down & bum up, and to call ambulance as well as delivery suite. This helps reduce risks around cord prolapse, which can happen but doesn’t always (eg it’s not definitely going to prolapse, it’s just a risk to mitigate)

A lot of women have reported having a transverse lie right up to the start of labour, and it seem fairly common for babies to turn head down at the end.

Good luck, it sounds like you’ve got a lot of worries on your shoulders at the moment xxx

@midlifebaby thank you for coming back to me that's really helpful! It does feel like he is constantly twisting and turning and doesn't keep still! I'm just worried about what this would mean for pre term labour, which can happen with raised fluids. At a push we are 20 mins from hosp. I called my day assessment unit this evening and they were basically no help, and said the consultant doesn't work weekends so nothing can be done basically unless my waters went, which by the sounds of it could potentially be too late!!

Have had a very worrying pregnancy thus far, and every possible worst scenario just keeps coming up in my head.

Thank you! X

Oh bless you I'm sorry that your pregnancy has been worrying. My baby was breach up until 36 weeks and he's apparently turned head down now, although I'm concerned he's moved again! They can move at any gestation, and it's just a matter of seeing what happens. You can check out the spinning babys website for tips and exercises to encourage the baby to move head down, but other then that I do believe it's somewhat out of your control. If there's a good amount of fluid the odds could well be in your favour! I really hope that baby gets shifting for you so you can stop worrying ❤️
