Does anyone have any recent experience of these maternity units please.

I'm keen that my partner stays with me if possible (not due til Dec)

Hi OP. Are you asking due to Covid? I'm due to give birth at Lister next month so haven't got recent experience as such but I found a number for a maternity support line they have set up due to the current situation and spoke to such a lovely and helpful person through that earlier in the week. It's separate to the mail maternity phone lines and there to offer support with concerns etc.

They confirmed you can have a birthing partner once it's confirmed you are in established labour but no one allowed onto the wards. The lady I spoke to said the birthing partner was allowed to stay in the delivery room after birth until you were ready to be transferred to the ward and then they would have to go. Some of this is on the website too.

I called to double check if partner allowed in theatre which apparently they are once all the prep is done.

A midwife I spoke to a while ago said she hoped things might ease a little by the end of May (although I'm not so sure about this now) but she didn't see the rules becoming any stricter e.g. no birthing partner.

So fingers crossed it will be an even more positive picture by December for you.

P.s. if not covid related, Lister normally allows partner to stay overnight etc so no concerns about not having them there.

Hi, thank you for your message.

No it isn't related to COVID, I'm hoping by December things will have eased a bit and it won't be so much of a worry. Just asking for opinions in general as I haven't been to either before and need to make a choice :)

I spent a couple of years working in Lister...some of that time was spent in their maternity theatre and they were lovely there. Not sure that helps you but I did enjoy my time there Grin

Thank you for your reply :) such a hard decision after I had a bad experience at PAH with my twins

I have had mixed experiences with the Rosie, some midwives are lovely and others the rudest people ever and I hope to bypass a certain ward but I am yet to have my baby but do recommend the Rosie as it has lots of experience and funding.

I've chosen to go with the Rosie, we'll see how it goes. I think there's good and bad from all hospitals unfortunately

Oh good. Having seen another 2 midwifes there I can say that most of them are lovely, experienced and patient. Good luck 😊

The Rosie was brilliant for me - I was under consultant-led care for MH and previous CS. Ended up with an ELCS after VBAC failed to happen and all the staff were great, we were really impressed by the care.

My partner could have stayed overnight on the post-natal ward but I didn’t need him to and staff were v helpful (but it was quiet).

That's good to hear :) glad you had a positive experience
