How long after a c section can you start high intensity training again

Hi,

So the title pretty much says it all! I didn't have a great experience with my c section and they didn't give me a lot of information other than don't drive for 6 weeks. Just wondering how long I should wait before high intensity training again?

Thanks! X

Theres very little information of c sections and proper working out. I had a c section on jan 3rd. It was my 2nd c section. I'm 34 and love exercise and was spinning up to day before she was born.

I started with just walking until week 3-4, then I introduced les mills barre and post partum work ( found this too easy lol) then around weeks I tried a little gentle spin and body combat (no jumping) and gentle walk/run with pram around 5-6weeks. I am a very sensible person and would only do what feels right for my body as dont want to end up hurting myself and then not being fit to exercise. From 12 weeks I upped to include rowing, running, weights etc.. I'm now 15 weeks, workout 6 times per week and feeling great. I have been hesitant to do much jumping so haven't done any body attack or jumping centred workouts but can do jumps for short time. I probably could do longer though.

I'm also breastfeeding and milk supply is fine!

Do what feels right, what u love and makes u feel good. I feel energised and ready to take on my day after a workout!

I want to go running again I'm 5 weeks post section but really worried if I run I'll open my scar or something horrific like that lol. Physically I feel fine in myself I can walk and run up the stairs etc but so scared of injuring myself I have an overhang now aswell as I had a big bump. So really worried!! X

I did some postnatal physio classes. They said 12 weeks after any
type of birth for high impact and even then start slowly.

I was advised to wait until 12 weeks after my section to run; I actually only waited 8 weeks because I felt fine and my scar was pretty much healed. I discussed with my GP at the six week check and he didn't have any objections so long as I took it slowly and stopped if I felt any discomfort.

If you want to do really high intensity exercise, strongly recommend seeing a postnatal physio for proper assessment and plan, to avoid doing yourself serious damage.

Please do what sockQueen suggests. Post partum your body is very different. You may feel fine but ligaments and joints will be looser. Be very aware of pelvic floor weakness. Do your exercises every day and avoid running and jumping until you are sure you arent putting yourself at risk. Wetting yourself mid 10km isnt fun as my running partner discovered.
