Healing after childbirth

Hi all
I gave birth to my son nearly 8 weeks ago and had a secondary tear which required stitches. About a week later they got infected so I was on antibiotics for a week, I now have what looks like a red flabby lump where the stitches were and at times it is very sore. I saw my GP and he didn’t seem concerned but everyone I’ve spoken too have said I should have healed by now. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of this?
Many thanks :)

Hi OP, congratulations on the baby and so sorry to hear about the stitches problem. I had the same thing when I had my DS too, although I had an episiotomy and not a tear. My stitches opened up and it was horrible both physically and emotionally. I had 2 courses of antibiotics and I only really started feeling like myself after 2 months or so.

Things that I remember reading at the time were that the lump on the skin may be a buildup of scar tissue which is what is causing the discomfort there are some creams that you can buy to help with this but I didn't use them myself.

I was also referred to a perineal clinic at the same hospital that I gave birth in and had a few check ups there with a specialist midwife, there may be something similar at your local hospital?

Best wishes for you and your DS.

Hi thank you for relying! I saw the doctor last week and he said it was nothing to worry about so I don’t want to keep going back and bothering them, I just starting to worry it’s never going to heal. Fingers crossed in a few weeks I’ll see some improvement, if not I’ll go back.
Thank you :)
