Opinions on c sections & induced labour

Hi,
Would love some people’s personal opinions on C sections & induced labour.
I’ve got a c section booked in a few weeks, as baby is breech & I have GD. Although of baby turns I’ll be induced early.
Would like to hear some stories on how either of these went for you Smile

Hi, I was induced with my first and it was not a good experience for me, very long labour ended in emergency forceps and epesiotome (pretty sure I've spelt that wrong!).
Second birth was an elective c section due to damage from first. The actual section was lovely, really calm and nice experience. Recover has been pretty easy, less painful than recovery from vaginal birth.
Personally I felt my body wasn't ready when I was induced (though I had to be as was over due) which made the whole thing harder.
All in all both were good experiences looking back, even the traumatic first birth as once it's done it's done and you have a lovely little baby.
Also I know people who've had lovely experiences of induction births. I think it's all very personal to each woman and all have their pros and cons.
Good luck Op and congrats 😊

I changed my mind overnight when in hospital on severe pe from being induced to having a section. It was for many reasons absolutely the best decision for us (me & DTs) extremely calm and I felt in control despite being at my most vulnerable. Things got a bit hairy with dd when she was born, and the response was incredible, an army of medics were there in seconds and she was absolutely fine within an hour or so (felt like 10 years!).

I did feel wistful about not having given birth ‘properly’ but that was predominantly pnd thinking I believe, and if I were to have any more dc I would definitely have another section.

Good luck!

I was induced due to waters breaking early and it was fine. Only lasted 2 hours and I didn’t find it overly painful at all. Needed gas and air but I would describe it more as “very uncomfortable “ rather than painful.

I liked the certainty of it. You’re hooked up to a drip, then you go into labour. Everyone there and everything you may need on standby. No rushing to the hospital or giving birth in a car park 😂 I also liked that the recovery was quick and I could get up and walk around, go home soon afterwards.

I was induced and like the poster above I feel that my body just wasn’t ready to go in to labour, I contracted way too hard and fast without dilating for hours. Ended up with an emergency c-section. The actual section was lovely and very calm, personally I’d just do that again.

There are some positive induction stories so I urge you to seek them out, but I personally know a number of people who have been induced and ended up with intervention of some sort. I don’t personally know anyone with a positive induction story leading to a “normal” labour.

I also found inserting the pessary one of the most painful bits of labour but I imagine this is different for everyone.

Loads of luck, whatever happens you’ll get to meet your baby and that’s amazing.

I was induced at 36 weeks as I'm t1d and they thought the placenta was starting to fail.

Induction itself took aaaaaages- 2 pessaries and a cook balloon. Waters broken at 1am, drip at 5am, baby born at 6pm. Progressed really well but right at the end things stalled a bit so ended with forceps. Wasnt bad though, baby out on first tug and the whole thing felt under control. Good luck!

I got induced as waters broke with no contractions. I had the sweep, then the pessary x 3, then on the drip. After 3 days I had an emergency c section and then got sepsis due to the time inbetween waters breaking and giving birth. I'm going for an elective c section this time round as there is no chance I want to go through anything similar to that again.

But mine is only one experience. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Induction can be quick or slow depending on your body my last induction took 2 days it was exhausting but I felt in control and recovered fairy quickly from birth

I was induced @ 37 weeks, I went into hospital on Thurs and gave birth Sat. Was home by Sunday. It took time and I found that it was a lot more painful than my first (normal birth)

Dyra · 10/04/2020 10:09

My induction was very positive. It took a long time to get started though as I was 37 weeks, Bishop score of 1 (and that due to pre-eclampsia) and baby wasn't the slightest bit engaged.

Once waters were broken, and the drip got started and ramped up to the level needed, things progressed nicely. Though I did need morphine to control the pain beyond gas and air. Made me very loopy, but I did sleep through most of the labour as a result! Baby kept shifting away from the continuous monitoring somehow, so they weren't sure if she was having decelerations/getting distressed, so needed the scalp clip.

From the start of the drip to baby being born was just over 13 hours (31 hours from first pessary). No interventions needed, and a small second degree tear.

Should I have any more children, and had the choice, I'd sooner be induced than C-section.

Good luck with whatever happens OP!
