Hi all, baby was discovered to be oblique during a growth scan 3 weeks ago, where his head is pointing towards my left hip and his body is laid diagonally. I saw the midwife yesterday and she could feel that he was still oblique. This is my first baby and now I’m starting to worry about him not engaging. There’s still time yet right? Midwife didn’t seem concerned and when I asked what will happen if he stays like that she said I would have a more controlled birth where they will hold his head in place and break my waters... has anyone had a similar experience? How did the birth go?

Hi yes my DS kept presenting as oblique when midwife examined me at check ups, I'd then go for a scan at hospital, by which time the little pickle would have moved and they'd say he was head down and send me home. Anyway I went overdue, last community midwife appointment she said he was oblique (I also had bonkers high blood pressure) so sent me off to hospital. I was admitted and induced next day. Had as your midwife described; broke my waters and checked he engaged, then they put me on the drip. DS born about 8 hours later, all fine. If he hadn't engaged and the cord had come down it would have been straight to theatre for c-section.

Having said all of this, there's plenty of time for baby to move and engage. I think what happened to me is quite unusual, it's unusual for first baby to not engage.
