I had a placenta abruption during labor at full term (38 weeks, 2 days) . Will my baby have long-term health issue?

I remember around 7th of february night I had mild contractions which intensified over the early morning and my family had to rush me to the hospital around 4.30 am next morning . The resident obgyn students chcked me and confirmed I indeed was in labor. They were apparently in contact wth my obgyn over the phone, who btw didn't come to the hospital until 6.30 am.. I wonder if this was medical negligence esp considering she stayed near the hospital

She called my husband in , and showed him the vaginal bleeding spot and told him "we cant wait. We have to operate"
My baby's heartbeat was falling upto even 53 bpm while I was in labor and before the obgyn had come.

Doctor said my "bleeding" was due to placenta getting abrupted.
I was shocked to know most babies don't survive that trauma .

However my son was born , but without crying and breathing. The paeditrician in the OT resuscitated him with air bag and as per discharge summary , he was able to breathe soon in 30 seconds and didn't require oxygen. His apgar score at 5 mins was I think 9/10. earlier it was 3/10 or something

They kept him in NICU for a half a day
However I still wonder if my baby developed some neurological issue while he was deprived of oxygen during the abruption of placenta.

he's 7 weeks old now and "seem" to be fine, gained healthy weight as per dates,

Even in NICU though , as per the neonatologists there he was "doing fine"
but I still have my qualms until he achieves his developmental milestones.

What an utterly terrifying experience I'm so sorry to hear that. Have you been offered counselling? I am not an expert at all, but didn't want to read and run. Also I genuinely think you shouldn't worry: if he had an Apgar score of 9 after five minutes, he was in very GOOD SHAPE very soon after the birth even though the birth itself was traumatic. Also the hospital would be following up with you if they had worries. Please try to enjoy your baby and look after yourself in these difficult times. (Sorry, not sure why strike through has been applied!)

My second son was born at 38&2, with a placental abruption in labour, emcs. He’s 14, taller than me, bit day dreamy, but perfect.

It is a horrible experience and it took me a while to get over. Do ask for a post birth debrief later if you’re still finding it hard to cope with. Flowers
