Yes, they've already announced that elective surgeries will be cancelled so I assume that includes c-sections without medical need

I’m due in 2 weeks and similar worries about delays however they cannot cancel an elective section in the same way they can cancel a hip replacement etc. The woman is going into labour either way and this will just lead to an emergency section. Maternity services will be prioritised! Obstetric and midwifery staff should not be moved and all the anaesthetists have just had all their elective work cancelled (routine ops) so staffing should be ok from that point of view. Only issue is staff sickness. Hoping they bring in testing for nhs staff soon to help with that.

As an NHS worker myself I really feel for them all but I have to believe maternity services will be protected as much as possible.

Oh have they ? Must've missed that , see I have cerebral palsy and even though I can walk I don't feel I would be able to deliver naturally due to weaknesses , I wonder what will happen ahh , very nervous

Talk to your labour ward / consultant to see if your c-section would be a priority.

singme · 18/03/2020 18:53

Also I don’t think that elective sections without medical need are very common at all. Usually a very good reason for it.

C sections will be fine. They won't be putting COVID patients on labour or postnatal wards (unless one is pregnant).
An elective C-section still has a need, its not something like a hip operation which can be put off for months.

That's what I am hoping happens @singme , c sections go through a long process of justifying why it should happen so clearly the professionals agree that an individual does in . I am aslo aware that in times like these everything seem to go out the window , and it's a "you get what you are given sort of scenario" . I live in London as well which is a busy at the best of times so I don't even want to imagine what's it's gonna be like now ... I just want the best for my baby and for them to arrive here safely , am ready to adapt to whatever situation is presented. It's just so hard not to worry about how this will affect the wards

Not saying it's not a possibility, but this document about NHS staffing doesn't mention cancelling elective c sections (it does mention cancelling elective gyne ops, but they are taking about obs and gyne as distinct areas) .
