Confused, when to go/phone in?

Im 36 weeks, at its my second. My first was an emerency section, but had got to 4 cm before that. I was 2cm when i had gone in for my monitoring but hadnt noticed

I have been having contractions for the last week, but they get as close as 15 mins apart and stop. Baby is fully engaged already.
I had a busy day yesterday so think i might have overdone it slightly and have been waking in night with pains, nothing too major or regular, but notice they seem worse when i move, so am resting in bed.

I have been told I will need monitoring the whole of my labour, and not to take my blood thinners if i think i might give birth that day .
I have decided not to take injections today "just in case" but was hoping someone might be able to tell me at what point to call in/go in? I would rather be at home, but need for monitoring means I dont have so much choice. And is it true labour if it slows when you lay down??

Thanks

Lisa

true labour does not stop

it gets a rhythm of its own, and the contractions are regular and get more intense and closer together

also, you cannot sleep through true labour

do you need monitoring becasue of previoius c.s or other reason?

Lisa

Can you phone your midwife for advice? (my midwife had pager for this reason). If you are worried, I'd at least call in. Even if you went in, surely the worst that can happen is they send you home again.

Not at all a CB expert, my gut feeling says your gut feeling says check it out.

copied and pasted from ivillage

When you?re really in labour, the contractions generally last the same length of time, with the same interval in between.

If you?re not sure whether the contractions you are experiencing indicate ?false? or ?true? labour, go to bed and try to rest or sleep.

  • If you find that lying down makes the contractions more noticeable, you?re likely to be in true labour.
  • If you find that you fall asleep, you?re likely to be in false labour.

Ring the hospital to let them know you are coming in when:

  • Your contractions are regular and last 40 seconds or longer
  • You need to use your breathing during a contraction
  • You feel you want to go into hospital. (This sixth sense is important)

As a general rule, the interval between contractions will be about 10 minutes for a period of over two hours before you can say labour is established.

What should I be doing in early labour?

Once labour has started, try walking around. This will make the contractions more efficient. Experiment with different positions to work out which one helps you manage the contractions best.

thanks.

I have to go in due to a number of reason previous C section, my heart rate currently is too quick, which makes the babies fast eg her baseline is 160 and she easily hit 200+ bpm. Im on blood thinners for a clotting disorder.

Laying down defo makes it more noticable, but did manage to get some sleep. Gonna just take it easy. I went in last week, but was force labour brought on by the fact she had engaged my god that was painful

Will check in again later

hi lisa- just to say that i hope you're doing well.

lulumama · 10/09/2007 08:36

true labour contractions, on the whole, tend to last around a minute

if you are feeling pressure, then try to go to the loo, and if that doesn't help, give the MW a call..
