Did anyone else go into this 'state' at birth?

So I've seen some women be fine between contractions and even the early ones. I was induced twice, first labour was 8.5 hours and second was 6.5. It might've been because I was induced but I went from 0-10 in terms of pain instantly. After the first wave, I couldn't do anything. They barely stopped, just constant sucking on gas and air. Couldn't talk and barely understood what they were saying, only understood push. I went into this state of total pain and fear for the whole labour but so many people seem to be fine in the early stages or in between contractions. Did anyone else have a labour like me as no one else I have spoken to has?

I barely escaped induction and didn't feel like that. In fact, I had contractions stop half way through as DS was crowning. A bit of rest before the last effort was very welcome.

The main pain I remember was the midwife massaging go prevent tearing, funnily enough.

It looks like induction should be reviewed.

I did and I was induced but I didn't have the drip just a couple of pessarys. I had no pains at all until they broke my waters at 3cm and I stood up and all hell broke loose she was born 2 hours later. From that moment I don't remember any breaks in pain at all it was awful.

I was in constant agony with my current baby. The pain didn’t ease off at all before a new wave hit, I was lying on my side with the gas and air tube wedged into my mouth as I couldn’t let the affect wear off because the pain was not easing at all.

Midwives didn’t believe I was ready to have my baby so once the one in attendance went on break I was left to labour alone (despite being high risk). I went in to the labour ward at midnight and have my baby at 2:10 am DP presses the alarm when he saw baby crowning. He decided he didn’t want to be handling this alone.

With my first I needed an epidural. 20 hours of pain. For my second when the pain started I thought OK I'm gonna get comfortable for a long labour, but it was so different. No drugs, water birth and baby came out so quickly and easily, recommend water birth.

I was put on the drip which gave me ridiculous contractions - 3 minutes long, very intense pain, with barely a break.

I was climbing the walls and feeling really weird, as PP said kind of like out of body experience.
I was begging for painkillers, was given the injection (I forget the name) twice, then finally an epidural.

After 12 hours and no progress, the consultant sent me to theatre for an EMCS as baby was showing signs of distress.

I thought I had it bad, but another woman was left on the drip for over 24h before her EMCS!

I had the drip and waters broken first time (which was worse) so maybe that was it but it was similar the second time.

The drip is torture

FeeFee832 · 03/03/2020 23:54

@moominkitty they said I wasn't allowed it out as it would stop labour and I'd already been in labour for 38 hours. Think they were worried my waters had been broken for too long.

Dilated from 2-10cm in 2 hours. Baby here within 3 hours after the drip went in. So painful...

FeeFee832 · 03/03/2020 23:56

For those who were induced first time round - what was second time like? #nervousmama

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 04/03/2020 00:36

@FeeFee832 I’ve had two inductions. The first I had my waters broken and drip started at 11pm and daughter was born at 4.23am with back to back contractions.

With my second I had my waters broken around 10/11am I think, I was assured I’d labour quicker as it was a second baby. It was not! He stayed comfy til 1am the next morning!

FeeFee832 · 04/03/2020 08:55

Oh noooo

FeeFee832 · 04/03/2020 08:55

Was hoping for some positivity! Scared but

KeithLeMonde · 04/03/2020 09:01

My first was like this - drip in, trapped on my back (the heart monitor strap was broken so it slipped off if I moved ) and very rapid first stage. It was awful.

Second time round I had a home birth, with a pool and practised hypnobirthing. I am a complete cynic about alternative therapies but felt I needed something to be able to go through it again.

It was COMPLETELY different for me. Slow, controlled build up, no pain relief needed. Transition was still a horrible few minutes but even then I was inside my own head knowing what was happening and that I could get through it.

MoominKitty · 04/03/2020 10:58

@FeeFee832 Ahh that makes some sense. I'd been in very slow early labour for 5 days and only got to 3 CM, but my waters didn't go till they were popped, and once popped I progressed super quick so may explain it.

I do think the drip needs to be reviewed though seeing as we all have suffered with it.

Can you opt for a water birth at all second time so it's more relaxing?

Puddlelane123 · 04/03/2020 11:05

Definitely the case for me with my two inductions - I found the pain horrific (not helped by being flat on my back on ctg and unable to move) and honestly I think it affected me for a long time afterwards. I never felt the euphoric feeling or gush of love on the arrival of my babies that people talk about. I felt in total shock and like a shell of myself for days. I’m not someone with a low pain threshold either - as a student I took part in a clinical trial of pain thresholds and was found to be in the top 3%. But the syntocinon drips absolutely wrecked me and all I could think about was not dying. None of the whale music or transformative birth experiences for me sadly.

2 Pretty "normal" births really.
Ds1 was early and they broke my waters when I was at 9cms. He arrived about 30 mins after.
Ds2 I went in to the hospital at 4/5 cms dilated. Pain totally manageable. They broke my waters (I was a week overdue) and he was in my arms within 3 hours!!
It was intense but no experiences like on here.
Feel very sad for you all x
