Quick labour

Hi everyone, I'm feeling so anxious about my second labour as my first labour was very quick!
The total time of my first labour was 44 minutes, I'm due my second child in June and my midwife has advised me that this birth will be very quick as well! she advised a home birth, could anyone give me some reassurance and let me know what your home birth experience was like? I just feel so scared that I won't be in a hospital! Has anyone else had a very fast labour? How was your second labour experience, was it just as fast or completely different? Sorry I've got so many questions I'm just so nervous 😖 thank you xx

8h DC1 then 30min DC2 and we live 1h from the nearest hospital with a labour ward - both homebirths, second bba. I actually enjoyed both and I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

Quick labours are generally problem free in that most problems slow down labour (obviously there are exceptions, but in general). So you can plan a homebirth and transfer in If the midwives think there's any problem or if you want too and they think there's time. If anything does go wrong an ambulance will get you there quicker than dp driving and you'll have assistance. Depending on urgency/distance you might get from home to theatre in less time than someone else might get from ward to theatre - in an emergency they'll be prepped by the time you arrive. And for minor complications resus/stitches they have all the same equiptment as a mlu.

Do you mean 44min from 4cm or from first sign? If the former then you could just go to hospital at first sign and refuse to leave the waiting room - I wouldn't want to but you could. If you labour that quick then unless you live next door hospital isn't a realistic option (unless induction is on offer), so you're comparing a planned homebirth with a roadside birth, now which seems more scary? I mean that to reassure you btw - I know you'd prefer hospital but at the very least home is the next best place.

I would book the homebirth for sure. And talk through what to do if a midwife doesn't arrive on time. And when you go into labour call then and say you labour quickly, don't wait.

I know I've talked a lot about if things go wrong, just because that's why people prefer hospital, but for second uncomplicated pregnancies it's actually safer at home.

First labour was 19hrs.

Second labour was 40mins. We just made it to the hospital when dd2 made an appearance.

Well, I tired for a home birth but my labour lasted a full 72 hours and so by the end of day two they ran out of has and air and I had to go to hospital.
I feel like number two would be absolutely fine at home. I think hospitals can intervene too quickly whereas at home it just goes with the flow!
But don't be thinking you have to do it if you'd prefer to go to hospital just so that.
Basically if you think anything is going wrong or don't like it, the midwives call an ambulance and you go to hospital anyway

I’ve had 4 labours
Faster each time

From first twinge to babe in arms
42 min
23 min
12 min
2 min 30 sec (from AROM)

At least I knew the searing agony wasn’t going to last that long by the subsequent ones

First birth 6 hours
Second birth 1 hour 42 minutes

I had a home birth with my second and loved it. I did get transferred in after the birth (baby was perfect but I had a pph) and it was all handled really well.

I'm not having anymore but if I did I would of had another home birth.

I am planning a home birth for my second because first labour was around 4 hours. I figured that you can plan for a home birth but change your mind if you need to, which is better than an unplanned home birth.

I would recommend joining some home birth Facebook groups and ask for advice and stories - this made me feel loads better. Also see if there are any workshops or antenatal groups around home birth in your area so you can meet people and hear real stories.

When you say labour do you mean whle thing. Miy firt 1.29 from waters breaking. (no preiouse contractions.) To baby being born. second 2 15 so not as quick but still quick. Do tell your MW that your first was quick and hope they listen. The hospital I was in didn,t really. (but at least I made it to hospital with my second.)
