Sorry I know I have another similar thread but I haven't heard a good response to this qu.

Any positive stories of having a few?

I had 3.

BabyLlamaZem · 23/02/2020 15:17

Were they elective/emergency and how did you feel after each one?

I'd say 3, but I know someone who had 4.
As with everything, it depends.

babynunber3 · 23/02/2020 22:13

I always thought was 3! I had two emergency sections 16/11 years ago then a elective 11 weeks ago and am keen to have another baby! I think it's down to individual and uterus etc

sandscript · 23/02/2020 22:36

My neighbour had 4!

sandscript · 23/02/2020 22:36

(They were all elective)

KirstyJC · 23/02/2020 22:38

A close family member had 6. First 2 were emergencies and 4 planned.

weebarra · 23/02/2020 22:40

3 emergencies. Took a long time to heal after the last one, lots of adhesions.

DramaAlpaca · 23/02/2020 22:40

A friend has had four. I think the first was an emergency and the rest were elective.

dwum · 23/02/2020 22:43

I had 4 Within a 6 year period

Pipandmum · 23/02/2020 22:43

There is no established limit but your risk of things like bladder and bowel injuries increase with each one. I know someone who had three, all medically advised. I had two also for medical reasons.

scrivette · 23/02/2020 22:44

I know someone who has 4, first emergency and the rest planned.

Dyra · 23/02/2020 22:56

As many as you need.

BUT (in my trust anyway) it's recommended you don't have more than 3. Adhesions, risk of injuries, risk of haemorrhage and the risk of placenta accreta in future pregnancies increase the more you have.

yatapina · 23/02/2020 22:57

I was advised that they don't recommend more than 3 due to scar tissue and higher risk of injury but obviously they can't force you to stop!

A friend of mine has had 5 (1 EMCS, 4 ELCS) and all was fine but she did say that recovery seemed harder/longer with each one.

I've had 2 (1 EMCS, 1 ELCS) and would agree. I felt fine after my first and was back to walking 4 mile trips into town within 2 weeks - with the second it took about 4 weeks before I could do the school run without being doubled over by the time I got back.

kazza446 · 23/02/2020 23:00

I’ve had 4. 2 emergency, 2 elective. I had no complications, however after surgery the consultant came to me and advised no more. He said there was significant scar tissue and I would be putting my life at risk.

Elouera · 23/02/2020 23:04

I was told that if more than 3, they might make the cut lengthways if there is a 4th cs! No idea if this is something only done years ago though. Hopefully a midwife/obstetrician can clarify?

dementedma · 24/02/2020 21:17

First was emergency, followed by PND. Second was elective followed by agonising headache caused by spinal fluid leak, 3rd was elective and ok.
Had surgery some years later because of adhesions.
