High blood pressure after childbirth

I didn't suffer from high BP at all during pregnancy but for some reason in the days afterwards (now 5 days pp) my readings have been going up. They hover around 145/88 which is quite high although not very high where I'd be packed off to the hospital.
My midwife says if they don't come down I'll need to see the GP.
No other symptoms although I am very tired and physically sore from the birth. I had a 50min labour from waters breaking to baby being born- precipitous labour I think it's called. I felt pretty shocked afterwards and wonder if it's caused my BP to raise?

Any advice welcome.

I had pregnancy hypertension right at the end of pregnancy and after birth. I ended up back in hospital a week after birth and taking lots of drugs to get it under control, but mine was much higher than what you're saying. You might need to take labetalol for a while whilst you hormones settle down. I was weaned off the drugs after a few months, my BP is now completely normal.

Total hearsay, but you aren't knocking back any kind of herbal teas containing licorice are you. A friend had similar issues to you, are later realised she had been drinking a Mother's Milk type tea that warned against consumption if you had bp issues.

Thanks both. No herbal tea consumption here, strictly a builders brew girl!

I ended up seeing the doctor and he said it was probably stress related due to the birth and following days etc. He said it wasn't super-high so just to keep an eye on it and if still high at my 6 week check they will review again.

Think I need to check myself into a spa for a few days! Grin
