Infected caesarean scar

I had my 2nd c-section two weeks ago and recently developed an infection in the scar. It looks like an open sore and is oozing fluid (sorry for tmi). I am starting a course of antibiotics tomorrow and am washing the area with plain water and cotton wool, drying with tissues and applying gauze dressings. Has anybody suffered from this before and if so, how long did it take to heal? It's most frustrating because otherwise I feel fine and this is stopping me from being able to walk properly and is quite painful.

Gosh,I am shocked at the apparent lack at post-op wound care! Am nurse on surgical ward, would advise following.
Have daily shower,do not wash the wound with soap etc,but hose it with the shower head, including the wee holes etc. Pat dry with clean towel, air dry,no to hair dryer, agree with consultant re:germs. Observe for redness, head, swelling increased pain.Any concerns, see treatment room nurse at GPs surgery, nurses tend to deal with wounds more than doctors. I would certainly think a referral for tissue viability would be appropriate, but treatment room nurse can ring them for advice,as they tend to have a massive catchement area of patients and are snowed under.Do not be fobbed off,you are entitled to adequate wound care,it is not brain surgery to heal a wound! Oh,and eat plenty of fresh, natural food, lots of protein.

Should say heat,not head!

I had an infection two weeks after my c-section, the scar at first was red, raised and angry and then started to open and ooze puss (gross!!).
I had to have it packed every day at the Dr's surgery which wasn't pleasant however it healed within a few days. I had an over-hang of skin which stayed for a few more weeks but after a month cleared up completely. It was a set back but I kept looking at my gorgeous DD and knew it was worth it.
I found over the bnump pants and trousers helped and had lots of salty baths.

In two days time I am having an elective C-section for my second baby, I have asked for a course of antibiotics to be given to me after the op to prevent the above happening again. We shall see..

Hello people I had my second CS 3 weeks ago and it was weeping fluid so went to hospital and the doctor said everything was fine they done a swab and the swab come back it was a infection iv got antibiotics but when I look at my scar it looks like a black little hole where the fluid is coming from and now getting pain in that part does anyone know if the antibiotics will clear this up or do I need to see. Doctor about the hole

Hi jaydeyy
I've had similar in the past and the skin should eventually knit back together, mine took nine weeks. However, you say the hole is black so I would call your gp for some clarification on that.
I found after a shower laying on the bed with a clean muslin in my crease helped dry the wound properly and then I would let it air. Hope this helps.
