Would a breach VBAC be encouraged?

I'm pregnant with my second child after having an EMCS last year. This baby is breech and I'm waiting to speak to my consultant about way forward. What are general policies on breech VBACs? Are they allowed at all? Thanks

Most probably not. They may try and turn baby
however I am unsure if they can do this after w previous section. But it’s very rare to deliver a breach baby naturally anyway let alone after a previous c section. Baby could still then naturally. How far gone are you?

Vaginal breech is certainly becoming more common place, combined with a prev CS less so. You’re not not allowed however.

Maybe ask to speak to consultant midwife in your trust

I had a similar situation, breach DC2, 2.5 years after EMCS. I was strongly encouraged to have an ELCS (which I did), but breech VBAC wasn't 100% ruled out. My consultant said they could refer me to another doctor who would support it, if I had felt strongly about it.

But it is a relatively high risk option, which for me wasn't worth it. If you do end up with a ELCS, try not to worry. It was nothing like a EMCS, and actually quite a positive experience for me.

There’s no such thing as not allowed - it’s your body, your choice, as long as you understand the risks.

This does have a significant number of risks though, it would depend on whether such high risks would be acceptable to you. On a personal level, I wouldn’t fancy it

There’s no such thing as ‘not allowed’. At the end of the day YOU have to consent and agree for them to do a c-section if that’s what you want.

I’m not sure how commonplace breech VBAC is, I have heard that a lot of success with breech birth comes down to the expertise of the person assisting the birth and apparently breech birth skills among midwives have become rarer over time, although some hospitals may even have midwives who specialise in it- so how experienced your care providers are dealing with breech birth is important to find out when making your decision.

How many weeks are you? There still may be a good chance that baby will turn :)
