Stupid question re consultant

This might be a stupid question...with DC1 I was midwife led care until I was admitted to hospital at 38+4 and had a section at 39w.

Due to this I am under consultant care this time, am now 20w have first consultant appointment next week and don't think I'm likely to see a midwife again. With DC1 I had feeding issues so I want to express colostrum pre birth, is this something I discuss with my consultant or do they just cover getting the baby out?

You will still see a midwife, being under consultant care just means you see the consultant once or twice. I was under consultant care with dd for similar reasons, saw the consultant at 20 weeks and then at 40+2 to discuss booking for elective section as I was trying for a VBAC.

I’m under the consultant and see both the midwife for normal appointments and consultant for additional appointments.
I talked to my midwife about feeding and the consultant more about my broader health issues. Also just to add I’m having a planned section and was told not to try to hand express before hand as it could bring on labour, would be fine if you’re not going for a section though I’m sure

I am hoping for a section which is why I need to discuss it. I had 16w midwife appointment but everything else has come through for consultant (4 appointments) at 20w, 28w, 34w, 38w so I'm not sure I will see a midwife in between?

I will mention it to the consultant and if no joy I'll ring the midwife office to see if I should be seeing them? My "named midwife" told me at my 16w appointment that she is leaving and doesn't know who is replacing her!

You should still see a midwife. I've had consultant apps all through this pregnancy (currently 37 weeks) but also had routine midwife appointments as well, along with gap and grow scans so have been able to see my baby regularly.

I think the next midwife app should be just after your 20 weeks scan, regardless of if you have consultant app so I'd give the office a ring just to double check if I were you :). I have found consultant visits to not be the most useful or reassuring but my midwife has been amazing.

I've seen a consultant for my pregnancy due to hyperemesis and seen them at 16, 20, 28 and next one is my 34 week one. I have seen my midwife and gp as well in between consultant appointments.

I skipped a couple of midwife appointments that fell the same weeks as consultant ones. I was consultant led pre conception so saw him every fortnight and then saw the midwife for the others where there wasn’t an overlap. Midwife care where I am is terrible, I never saw the same one twice which was no great loss as they were all dreadful so was hugely grateful for consistent care and monitoring from the consultant. I asked him anything and everything Smile

I was consultant led but I saw both as they cover different things.

I was consultant led, regular consultant appointments, but he wanted me to continue to see the midwife for the standard appointments as she'd book me in for 28 weeks bloods, anti d, whooping cough etc and also cover general stuff.

Same as PP, I saw both consultant and midwife
