Positive Induction Stories

39+2 and my due date is Tuesday, however I went onto the Maternity Ward with Reduced Movements yesterday (39+1) they monitored baby and he was perfect, the movements were lovely and they was happy with him, nothing to be worried about and the monitor was picking up a fair few tightenings.

She said that they're going too induce me as this is my third episode of reduced movements since 28 weeks, I am going in on Saturday at 11 for my induction but have too go in tomorrow at 9 for monitoring again, with the possibility that if there is any babies born tonight then I'll be getting induced tomorrow instead of Saturday🙈

I will be having the Propess pessary too ripen my cervix if it isn't already ripening, after 24 hours I'll be reassessed and if my waters can be broken they will be.. just wondering if anyone else has had this type of induction and if so how did it go for you??

If you had other ways of induction please still tell me how it went as I'm worried but really excited at the same time💗

Questions I have to ask are:

  • after they started the process, how long did it take for you to go into labour? (I know everyone is different)
  • what did you feel as though passed the time?
  • was you allowed pain relief during the process?
  • what did you pack in your bag? (Bag is already packed but with it being an induction I could be in there for a while)

Sorry for the long post and all the questions but I'm FTM and too say I'm scared is an understatement.

Thank You.x

I was induced with my first. I had the pessary, contractions started about 12 hours later, and baby was born another 14ish hours after that. So all in all about 26 hours (but 6.5 hours of ‘established’ labour). It was a ‘typical’ induction with a cascade of interventions - I had gas and air, pethidine and then an epidural. Baby needed to be helped out via ventouse (your risk of needing an instrumental delivery or C-section is increased with an induction).

Just a gentle reminder that you don’t have to be induced. Given the choice again, I wouldn’t. It was fairly straightforward but a long way from the birth I’d have liked. I don’t mean to put you off, I would just encourage you to do some research before agreeing, given that baby seems happy and healthy.

I’m also being induced tomorrow however I don’t have a time til I ring in the morning which is annoying. I was induced last time too and I have the 24 hr pessary then two lots of gel, they they could break my waters but I had to wait for a space on delivery.

Hope you are feeling okay x

First baby and I had an induction at 38+5 due to slowed growth.

I was absolutely petrified and really had no clue what to expect. My whole pregnancy we had planned for an elective section but made the decision to try a vaginal birth first when my consultant gave the ok.

Had the pessary inserted at 5pm, cervix closed. Went for a walk, pressure in pelvis started at 8pm, contractions started about 10pm and my waters started trickling pretty soon after. Had co codamol, then pethidine and gas in the early hours as the contractions got more intense.

Went from 3cm to 8cm dilated in 20 minutes and was rushed to delivery suite. No time for an epidural and after 25 minutes of pushing baby was here. 3rd degree tear which I didn't feel and has given me no issues since. Was up and walking/showering an hour after birth.

In all I think I was very lucky, my experience was fine. From start to finish it was 19 hours, my notes say 6 hours of established labour. I felt supported and well looked after. Baby arrived safely and quickly. Pain relief was readily available. I would opt for an induction again.

Good luck! Smile

I had my waters broken at 2pm, on the drip at 3pm, labour established by 6pm baby born at 8pm after two pushes. I only had gas and air no other pain relief or intervention. Being induced isn’t always a long process or has too many interventions.

There was a lovely live induction thread the other day! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/3797140-Join-me-for-a-live-induction-thread

I went in as over due with dd. They gave me cervix ripening pessary at 9pm a d I went to sleep. I was holding my daughter in my arms by 8am- no pain relief needed- great labour. Ds my waters broke but labour didnt start so put me on drip to induce. 3 hour active labour no pain relief needed.. ish! I was terrified first time round but it was fine xx

I went in to be induced but was already in early labour so they broke my waters and let me crack on with it. I got there at 1pm, waters broken about 5pm, baby arrived at 8am. When I was fully dilated my contractions stopped, so I had to have oxytocin and ended up in theatre with a forceps delivery, which was pretty much my worst nightmare, but actually it was fine, I came out of it pretty much unscathed.

In terms of pain relief, gas and air did nothing for me other than make the ceiling tiles move around which made me want to throw up! Pethidine made me very sleepy, which made me pretty pissed off, I was on hourly obs and I kept asking why they were waking me up every 5 minutes! 😂 had an epidural in the end after my contractions got really bad in the shower and I nearly passed out. Everything was fine after that!

Good luck!

I had growth scans fortnightly and she was consistently below the tenth centile so I was induced at 37+4.
I was 1cm with a difficult posterior cervix when they put the first prostin pessary in. 6 hours later and no developments I had another pessary inserted. Used this time to bounce loads on the ball and walk laps of the hospital grounds. Felt very slight cramps at this stage not painful.
After 6 hours they were able to break my waters, I was 3cm at this point.
All hell broke loose and baby was born 2.5 hours later. As soon as I stood up after my waters broke the pains were incredible she must have just needed that to happen to come down. No time for anything except gas and air.
All in all a quick positive induction. I needed an episiotomy and she was 5lb 3oz but I've healed amazingly and she's 6 months old.
