VBAC after 2 C-Sections - A non-starter?

Quick question - I have had 2 C-Sections. First was under GA, second with epidural. We are planning our final kiddie and I am pretty sure I will not be allowed to try for a natural delivery again. I am sad at the prospect, knowing this will be our last baby, of never having a natural delivery. Is VBAC after two Cs unheard of?

It is not unheard of MommyD. Lots of people have done it and you will too - if its what you really what you want. Try having a look \link(www.vbac.org.uk\here} and also here for info. Have you got support from your dh or others?

sorry first one didn't work tryhere

No support from dh - he feels that another C will be safer than VBAC. He is terrified of something happening to me in labour (I have only just found this out). If only I KNEW which was safer for me and the baby.... I don't mind another C, I just feel sad that I don't even think I will get the choice this time.

you may not be offered the choice by your caregivers, but it is there if you want to try it. My advice would be to read up as much as you can "birthing from within" by Pam England is good. aims do some good publications on informed choice and also a good leaflet on vbac. Also get some support, any chance you could get an independent midwife or doula?

If you want to do it, you can.... most people are happy to get a 3rd caesarean but I do know people who have done it. And SueW knows someone who had 3 sections and a VBAC at home !
Read on the topic and decide with your hubby what is best.
For the BABY, VBAC is best.... for you I am not 100% sure where is the risk higher. After 1 section the mum is still safer with a VBAC.

after reading the recent vbac thread i was going to post this too. i was told that i could not have a normal birth after two sections and although im not planning any more babies yet its something that weighs heavily on my mind. i really would love to have a vb if i have another baby in the future. how many people have done this and what are the risks? how can i get hold of my notes because there are things i really need to know about my two deliveries before i go researching these things? (sorry mommyd, not hyjacking)

nightowl - you simply write to the head of medical records with name and d.o.b. and hospital no if you know it and request a copy of your notes. You may have to pay - amount varies from hospital trust to hospital trust. You will then be sent a copy of your records.

A friend of mine has just had a VBAC having had 2 c-sections so it's certainly possible. I guess it depends on the reasons for the original sections.

nightowl · 04/10/2004 00:15

my reasons were fetal distress and slow growth the first time (although this was questioned by the second hospital with better equipment...the consultant there (who i was told i was lucky to have as he was the best) told me he could find nothing wrong with my baby but would act on the instructions of the first hospital) the second was due to a labour that was going nowhere (though i was never examined) and when they finally said they would induce me i went to pieces and requested another section (mainly because i was so scared and hadnt a clue what was going on, plus after baby number one i really didnt trust this hospital) this is why i want to see my notes...i was so confused and in pain at the time i didnt ask the questions i probably should have. if there is a next time i want to research everything fully and be in no doubt as to what i should do.

What an interesting thread, best of luck to all those who are going for it.

Just to touch on Nightowl's post, I am in the same boat, not planning number 3 but it weoghs on my mind too. i do actually have all my maternity labour notes as I requested them before I left the UK but even the thought of reading them makes me shudder (lots of blood loss and 2 emergency Cs). I have to say if I did have number 3 I would go elective C, don't want to go through all of that labour and get to 9.5 cms again to be told baby is OP and I have a stubborn anterior lip. But you never stop wondering do you.
