Do obstetricians sometimes suggest c sections for babies measuring exceptionally big?

Does this actually happen? I have you ever heard of an obstetrician suggesting a c section because a baby was measuring exceptionally big?

In my case, it was in the context of discussing shoulder dystocia risks. I was under midwife care and had to see and obstetrician to discuss these risks in detail.

My baby is over 95th centile and I've previously had a shoulder dystocia but nobody has suggested a c-section. I am however being induced early.

I was offered the choice of a c section or an induction for DS who measured over the 95th centile ( I have previous history of a traumatic foreceps delivery with DD who got stuck )

No me, but friends of mine who have had babies under private obstetricians have. They were all told baby was measuring big and then the doctor found another reason to medically justify a c-section.

It should be discussed as a balance of risks like all medical procedures giving you the risks and benefits of each option....

As a slight counter to the experiences above, my sister had the second largest baby ever delivered vaginally in their local maternity unit at the time - 10-11lbs if i recall correctly.

It does happen but the growth scans are very inaccurate. My DD who was transverse was 9lb. I had to have a c sec with her and then with DS I insisted on another c sec. They were adament it was another 9lb baby after the scan but I knew he was massive. He was 11lb1 with the largest head circumfrance they had ever recorded

My friend had one because her baby was big.
