Vb after missed 3rd degree tear

Would love to hear of your experiences of a VCB after a 3rd degree tear.
I had a missed 3rd degree tear (quick forceps delivery) with severe incontinence, a massive haemotoma from the episiotomy site and some hefty mental scars to go with it all afterwards. I had the tear repaired correctly a month after the delivery and was advised a c section would not be a bad thing should I have a second pregnancy. However, the thought of going into hospital to have a second child is really grating on me. I'd love a home birth because I'd rather not be monitored too closely to avoid interventions (turns out my DDs heart rate came back up again just before she was delivered so it wasn't actually necessary). I know it sounds ridiculous but I'd love to DIY if I get a next time round, but at the same time I don't want to end up sh*ing in a bag the rest of my life because I ruined the repair.....

Sorry, you want to DIY a possible tear repair?? Confused I must be reading that wrong!

Your risk of having another 3rd degree tear is actually very small (something like 5% chance comes to mind), and having a home birth decreases your chance of having interventions. Having a homebirth is a perfectly sensible choice.

Honestly given that you had complications from a missed 3rd degree, i would go for the planned C/S. Had it been an 'uncomplicated' 3rd degree then i would say go for the home birth bit given that you have had incontinence i think even your consultant would be advising an ELCS.

I had a straight forward 3rd degree tear with my first and had a my second by c section on Monday just gone. (To avoid pooing in a bag)

It has been a breeze by comparison and a lovely experience, it's only been 5 days and I'm in no pain at all and able to potter around doing things (gently) around the house already. I totally understand wanting a certain birth experience, I wish I could have the same, but If you do go for a section it really isn't half bad

I had a very bad 3rd degree tear (would be classed as a 4th in the US). My second I had a VB (in hospital due to other complications from first time). I had no tear at all, I do have a minor prolapse but no other problems and I'm sure that was actually caused by my first anyway.

When I sour the consultant he was very happy for me to have a VB and didn't see the need for a c-section. Even with the other complication which would have been a higher risk then trearing again.

@PhoenixBuchanan I've just reread this.. Grin obvs I don't want to do my own repair lol, Id rather give birth on my own without doctor intervention is what I'd meant

I've gave birth 11 days ago. 2nd baby and opted to have him at home due to such a horrible experience of hospital birth 1st time round. I had a lovely home birth with 2 very calm, chilled midwives who where amazing. Baby was 8.14lbs and labour 3 hours. However I gained a 3b tear and needed to be transferred to hospital straight away for surgery. I was so upset.

I made my decision for a homebirth after speaking to a birth matters midwife who suggested it. She spent time explaining what happened on my 1st birth, it really helped. Then as I hate my hospital and there are no others anywhere near made suggestions on how to manage the next birth.

Personally I wouldnt risk it. If it all happens again you would be dealing with that on top of a newborn plus another child. My first baby was an ES. 2nd and 3rd were planned. They were honestly such an easier experience than my first. Recovery is fine if you mind yourself

I would definitely speak in detail to your consultant and midwives for their thoughts and guidance.
Do you still suffer from issues relating to your first tear or have you managed to get control back?
I had a 3b tear first time, but thankfully suffered no lasting damage except for leakage on a trampoline (which is the same as my mum friends who didn't tear)
I went for a hospital birth again as I labour fast, and the speed was what we think led to the tear.
Sadly I tore again, 3a which sucked.
I've not got huge issues, but do now have some prolapses of different kinds. Mentally, I feel broken down there (16 weeks pp), but I'm not sure if I'd have done anything differently except going to the hospital sooner as we only just made it.
