Private or NHS?

I am currently 13 weeks pregnant and trying to decide what my options are for birth. Do I go with Barnet hospital NHS and just pay for some extra scans along the way or is it really worth going privately and having to go into town when in labour? Or are there other options like having a private midwife at Barnet hospital? There is so much information out there I just don't know what to do! My husband isn't bothered either way and says it is up to me! Can anyone offer me any advice from their own experiences?? Thank you

Hi @KTM86, congratulations on your pregnancy.Smile
It depends on couple of things: how much are you willing to pay? And are you planning natural birth or planned csection?
I'm currently doing both NHS and private at the moment.

Hi @Ella32

Tbh because he is an IVF baby my parents have very kindly offered to pay whatever we would like, as they feel we went through so much to get here. I am planning a natural birth as it stands though am leaning towards an epidural at the moment! What aspects of private are you doing? I know I am in a very fortunate position but I find the whole thing of having to decide very overwhelming! Everyone I speak to has only positive things to say about Barnet Hospital and their NHS care but I still have niggling feeling that Private can be better in certain situations.

I undrestand exactly what you mean, i was also so confused with the whole idea of private/nhs and it took me a long time to figure it out.

I'm currently under my local NHS hospital for antenatal care as I don't live in London(in case of an emeregency happens) I'm also under a care of a private consultant in London which I visit once a month and I'm planning to give birth in a private hospital wing in London and he will be available 24/7 to deliver the baby.

So if you do live in London and close to a private wing of a hospital you don't need to do both, you can just go with a private consultant.
