Hypnobirthing- am I too late?

Hi all,
30 weeks pregnant with my second. I was preparing for hypnobirthing/water birth with my first but it didn't come to fruition (ELCS) and I now can't remember when I started the reading, visuals, affirmations etc. I also can't find my book!

Please help me! At 30 weeks, do I still have time to get started?

And can anyone recommend any books or online courses (not too expensive please!)?

Thanks :)

I didn’t get started until after then. I did some for DD1 which didn’t help. I did positive birth company online course, you just watch the videoes whenever you want. I also used their positive affirmations cards. It really helped.

Just looked and it’s £39. I got it for £12 in a flash sale but honestly it’s more than worth the money.

Oh thank you! I'll check it out! :)

Definitely not too late. I would say the breathing techniques are the ones that helped me most through my recent labour. Good luck!

Thanks! This is good to know! May have to bite the bullet and get the PBC pack, (poor bank balance haha).

I used the Maggie Howell CD and book from around 34 weeks, worked well for me. Cd is just £11.99 on Amazon, I got the book later on, but I only read about half of it

PerditaMacleod · 08/01/2020 20:14

I didn't start properly until about 2 weeks before due date but I did feel like it helped.

A friend did the Positive Birth Company from 37 weeks and had a fantastic birth. She and her husband made it their project in the evenings.

What Annlee said.

The Maggie Howell/natal hypnotherapy CDs were great for me. The book is called "effective Birth Preparation" and it's not too heavy going.

I used them for 2 VBACs. :)

Pretty sure I forgot till quite late on for dc3 as well 😅

I was just about to ask this question OP when i found your thread. I will look online but i think i am very late at 38w3d..

Chipmonkeypoopoo · 25/01/2020 06:07

Didn't do ours until I was over 35 weeks. Maybe 37? I didn't get much out of it - probably because I wasn't worried about birth anyway. The bits I did find useful was the info on how the muscles contract and a reminder about breathing. Oh and to practice your breathing while you have a poo.

I'm definitely too late now! 😫 issues with baby's growth means another ELCS for me 😞😞😞😞 if anyone can point me in the direction of good birth counsellors that would be fabulous!

You can still use some of the same techniques so that you have a very calm and pleasant section perhaps?

Chipmonkeypoopoo · 25/01/2020 12:04

Sorry to hear it but I agree there is stuff about cesareans in the hypnobirthing bumph.

Lordfrontpaw · 25/01/2020 12:05

I did it about a month before the birth.

Lordfrontpaw · 25/01/2020 12:07

Sorry I missed the last update. Yes - it’s a keeping calm and in control no matter what happens. It’s doesn’t promise a magical birth - you will learn how to relax and keep calm and in control, to understand procedures and the choices offered. If you are unsure or scared, then you aren’t in control and can feel a bit ‘lost’ in the process.

Good luck with the birth.
