Quick labours!

elle2020 · 07/01/2020 11:00

I'm currently 37+4 weeks pregnant with my second baby and I had a very quick 2 hour labour from start to finish with my first baby. I was just wondering how quick 2nd labours were for other mums who had fast deliveries the first time around? Was it just a one of? Or did you deliver even faster?
My midwife has recommended me to have a home birth due to the speed of my first birth so this is what I have planned but I am becoming worried about delivering this baby while home alone with just my 1 year old.
TIA

My 2nd was very quick, ds was born in A&E as it was closest to the carpark. Maternity way 2 floors up at the back of the hospital.
Dc3 was an unplanned home birth attended by paramedics.
Usually quick births are quite straight forward but still very scary!

DS was 10.5 hours from first contraction. DD was just over 4 hours and I wasn't even sure if I should be going in. Got there 10 mins before I needed to push.

My DM also had quicker labours with each child. If I were you I'd plan for home birth, but try and have someone with you to watch your child.

I was induced on the drip with DS but went from 3cm to crowing within an hour so presumed id be quick with DD and warned hospital of such. I was checked 11am and told cervix was still closed, went for a walk and got the contractions going, by 3pm, was checked again at half 4, told i was 4cm and she could see hair, by the time i got to delivery at 5 i was contracting every 30seconds and had her at 6, the dr didnt have time to get down by the time the midwife realised what was happening and i think the student midwife who was watching was a bit taken back!

First was 4 and a half hours. Second was 36 minutes, made it to hospital just in time.

Second was half the time (exactly) of first.... So yes, v quick! Be prepared.

My first Labour was induced and took ages.
2nd was spontaneous and 90 mins long we and never made it inside the hospital. Was very anxious about the 3rd delivery. It was a 90min labour again. In the hospital this time tho.

I’m currently pg with #2. With my first I was induced with propess (as apparently my cervix wasn’t ready) and went from first twinge to pushing in 3 hours (then baby got stuck). I’m planning a home birth with #2 as I don’t want to give birth en route! Midwives are supportive and have said that if want a hospital need to call triage as soon as I have my first contraction. I only live 15 mins away.

I'm very curious about this too as my "birthing" history is odd bit quick.
Ds was an emcs at 33weeks so no labour at all. Then I miscarried but didn't feel any contractions until 1.30 and everything passed at 2. And then I miscarried again but much later and dc3 was born in 30mins from first twinge to bloodbath in the carpark as I hemmoraged.
I'm currently pregnant with dc4 (second living so far) and I have no idea how quick things will be or not

Thought I would update if anyone comes across this post and wants to know how my second labour went.
She was 7 days overdue, I had a sweep on the 6th day and was told I was 3cm but could be stretched to 6cm and it was just my water that was holding me back so as soon as my water goes I need to either get straight to the birth centre or get someone out to my house for the home birth.
My water then broke the next day in the middle of the night (I had no contractions leading up to it I just woke up because I heard a pop and got up and then it all came out).
I was home alone with my 1 year old as my husband works nights luckily my mum lives 15 mins from my house so she quickly came bringing my brother with her to look after DD and she then drove me straight to the birth centre (midwife would have never got to my house in time and I new this as contractions were come strong and fast as soon as my water broke)
We then got to the birth centre I jumped straight in the birth pool and had her 13 mins after arriving at birth centre. Altogether my labour was 40 mins from start to finish.
My husband did miss the birth though as he works in LondonSmile
But all together was very lucky and was definitely easier then my first labour (must less painful)

First active labour 4 hours. Second blue lighted in as precipitous labour probably lasting 40 mins. Delivered on paramedics trolley as DD crowned in ambulance. Third planned induction at 39 weeks to prevent another drama. Cervical assessment at 38 weeks resulted in triggering labour the next day. Arrived hospital 1600 , admitted to ward at 1730 as I didn't appear to be in active labour. Delivered at 1800 after 10 mins in labour room, my friend worked in the unit and told them to get me down to the labour ward even if I looked far to calm to be in established labour. Fourth induced as they knew by now what I'd be like. 2 nd doze worked but again 10 mins established labour recorded. Only made the labour room due to a fantastic student being adamant that despite my ability to hold a conversation whilst doing nothing more than sway gently i was having string regular contractions.
