Labour ?????

Hey so basically the most important details:

  1. I'm 21 and this is my first baby.
  2. As of today (Monday Dec 30th) I'm 40 weeks and 5 days. I was due Christmas Day.
  3. I had a small show the morning of Dec 23rd and some blood in my stool / urine that night. Went to A&E and they said it was just the bloody show but I'm not near labour yet. Cervix wasn't open at all.
  4. Started having small practice contractions around 7pm December 28th and ended up in A&E at 9:30am the next morning thinking I was in labour but the MW said I'm only 1cm dilated and not in labour. That was this morning.
  5. I came home and had a 4/5 hour nap which helped and then a bath.
  6. Before I got into the bath (about 5pm) and since then I've been having very strong contractions getting closer and closer nearly each time but they're only lasting about 20-45 seconds at most. I've had 5 paracetamol since 10 am yesterday (6 am now) and I'm able to deal with the pain without screaming and shouting but does anyone think I could be more dilated by now ? Or do I still have a lot more pain to come ? MW said it could be another 24 hours or even a few days. I've a doctors appointment in the hospital for NYE. Incase I haven't gone by then.

For me personally I'd say hold out untill you physically cannot are it any longer then ring your mw team. My advice is to try keep moving it will help progress things:)

Good luck!

I would call. I waited until I couldn't bear it (well actually I was sent home at 2cm after 12 hours of contractions) and it was awful. I completely lost control. If they are coming fairly close together do call the labour ward and let them know what's what, but also let them know if you aren't coping.

I was also 21 when I gave birth for my first and I think when I came back I was being melodramatic but I was genuinely in awful pain because I was dilating so quickly. You can have a more positive experience than that!

But also just in case I've misunderstood, you shouldn't be ringing a and e if you're in labour you should be contacting the labour ward they will be open 24 hours :)

My little ray of Sunshine, Bella-May was born at 4:50am New Year's Eve weighing 7 lbs 10. I was 2cm when I got into A&E at 1:15am. Got admitted to Early Labour Ward at 4am and got the Petadine (I hope I'm spelling that right) shot. Waters broke at 4:25am and she was here 25 minutes later.
She's absolutely perfect.
But last night everyone seemed to notice her heart beat was pretty fast last night, everyone noticed it so the doctor came down and said she’s gonna bring her to Neo for observation. They ended up admitting her and putting her in an incubator and putting her on 3 antibiotics. They did a lot of tests, blood tests that I won’t find out the results for another 25 hours or so. A lumbar puncture or something which I won’t know about till like Saturday morning. But there’s so many reasons why she could be like that she could just be too hot or something. They’re testing for pneumonia (slightly likely), meningitis (not likely) and then underlying infections but because she’s stable and has no fever she’ll be put into a cot in the special care unit ( where she is now ) ( and because she’s too big for it ) and even might have her back in my room with me and just have to bring her to and from SPU for the rest of her antibiotics. But I'm not that worried or stressed anymore going by what they're saying and the fact she's stable and has no fever.

Congratulations!!
I'm sorry you two are having a rough start. Babies are strong little things! I'm sure she'll be fine in no time xxx
