Giving birth on blood thinners

I am 32 weeks pregnant with my first child. The hospital have put me on blood thinners until I give birth. Giving birth on blood thinners scares me though - am scared of hemorrhaging whilst giving birth. I know I'm probably being over dramatic but it is worrying me. Can anyone reassure me?

Ive given birth on blood thinners twice (heparin). it was fine - i just stopped them the day before. Dc1 i was induced two days early but ended up with an emcs, dc2 i had an elective section. Think i restarted the next day for a week or two.

Not sure what happens if you labour spontaneously but i dont remember anyone being worried about this beforehand. I think they leave your system quite quickly so unless labour is very quick it wouldn't be an issue

I was on fragmin and asperin during my twin pregnancy due to a previous pulmonary embolism after my previous dd's birth.

In my case I was having a planned C-section, and was told I would stop a couple of days before...the twins had other ideas and came early! I had an emergency C section, with no issues due to the blood thinners.

The medical staff know what precautions they need to take, I panicked a bit if I am honest, but after being hospitalised for nearly a month the first time with a PE amd pneumoniae the risk was extremely low versus the higher probility of something going wrong if I didnt have daily fragmin injections.

Whats the reason you need to take them?

I'm on them as they think I've got a high(ish) risk of blood clots due to my age (I'm nearly 40) and my mum having had high blood pressure in the past. My blood pressure is fine every time it's taken but they don't want to risk it.
Thank you for your posts - I am feeling reassured and better about giving birth. I think it's just with it being my first, I'm naturally worried and this is just an extra thing to worry about!

Congratulations! I’m on Clexane (and aspirin) for a pulmonary embolism and due in early Feb, though I’m being induced at 39 weeks so they can keep an eye on things. I’ve had appointments with all sorts - consultants, obstetric haematologists etc - but no-one seems too worried about it. I have had slightly conflicting info (one doctor told me to stop taking the Clexane if I go into labour, one told me to carry one) so will definitely be trying to get some definitive advice in the next few weeks, but I don’t think it’s a major cause for concern. And at least we don’t have to learn how to do the injections just after having given birth!

(That should be carry on not carry one)
