Where's my baby?

I'm 38+6 today and there's literally no sign of my baby being ready to arrive. Am hoping for a VBAC so apparently not allowed to go past 40 weeks?

I wait anxiously as my first was born at 38+5 and was told it would be highly likely that number 2 would be even earlier!

I had no contractions with my first- just back pain and a fortunate appointment where I was checked internally and told I was 7cm! (Then had waters broken/induced etc)

Had an internal check (aaaghh!) a couple of days ago and my cervix was sealed shut- but was 'thinner'.

Anyone got any stories to help me feel like this VBAC has a chance?

As the one who is pregnant, you get to do the 'allowing'. If there is a clinical reason to induce you at 40wks, fine, but you are able to decline if you so wish.
When I was pregnant recently, I aimed for a HBAC and achieved a VBAC. I went into labour on my due date. My first child was born at 42wks.
Best of luck with it all.

Out of interest, why were you induced with first baby?

Don't panic just yet. My DC1 was born at 39 weeks. DC2 born 39+6. I was fully expecting to go earlier with second baby and felt very dismayed when 39 weeks came and went with no sign.

Get bouncing on a birthing ball, lots of walking, etc. if cervix is thin then baby is putting the right pressure on it and keeping active will help encourage that to get you dilating. Good luck!

I had no contractions whatsoever so they put me on the drip to bring them on. But ended in an EMCS anyway 🤷‍♀️

There is no guidelines for VBACS needing to be delivered by 40weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️ Please question this and ask for their evidence in writing.
Also, you are ‘allowed’ to do what you want.

I am a midwife and had a VBAC. I was actually induced at 39+4 for medical reasons, had an induction booked for 40+4 for personal reasons (my firstborn had E. coli meningitis and they believed it developed so much due to prolonged gestation with meconium stained liquor which reduces sterility in amniotic fluid). My own consultant was happy for me to go up to 42weeks however.

You might have a wee while yet! My first was 40 + 10. Second was 40 + 13!!

Thanks for your advice! Just feeling like I've had enough of waiting. 😕

DD had an emergency CS with first and a wonderful Vbac with the next. She was maybe 10 days early with no 1 but about 40+3 with no2. She wasn't put under pressure not to go over 40w but I think they were going to deliver her when 41w.
Good luck, it can happen!

Scbchl · 29/11/2019 22:34

My first was four weeks early, second was two weeks and third was only two days.

LongLiveThePenis · 29/11/2019 22:44

Have you tried eating pineapples, dominos pizza, sex?
Hope it comes soon, I chose CS again, women who do VBAC are very brave in my opinion!

PixieDustt · 29/11/2019 22:50

I had induction at 38 weeks due to GD.
Although I thought DS was ready as I dropped, felt all twinges etc before the induction I had 1 failed round of pessary's as my cervix just wasn't opening 🥵 thankfully got the ball rolling on the second pessary on the 2nd round

Congrats @Dalooah !

@LongLiveThePenis vbac doesn't mean you're brave - 0.5% risk of rupture of the old CS wound, which doesn't necessarily mean full rupture either, dehiscence is more common which is just a slight coming apart. It's a risk but not a huge one.

I think in future they'll relax guidelines around vbac, I did lots of reading before having one and it seems to me the rules are overly restrictive. They used to always make you have a section and they're going cautiously away from that.
