Is second baby usually bigger than first?

Morning all.

I’m 31 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. My daughter was born at full-term and was 8lb 7oz - she wasn’t chunky at all just had very long limbs! 😊 I’m 5ft 3in and when not pregnant am a size 6-8 and I remember a number of people being surprised at my daughter’s birthweight.

People are now saying that the second baby is usually bigger than your first and that boys are bigger (or have bigger heads) than girls, which makes me feel a little nervous! Just wondering if there’s any truth in this? Would anyone like to share their experiences?

My first baby was nearly exactly the same weight as yours (8lb 8oz) and my second was exactly the same! So not always...

My second was smaller

My first was a girl born at 40+11 and was 8lb 8oz.
Second was a boy born at 40+10 and was 7lb 14oz.
So second babies/boys aren’t always bigger.

Mine was... by 20 grams

I have 5 each one bigger than the one before

I am around 5 ft and before having any children i was a 6/8 now an 8/10

Dc2 was 8oz heavier than dc1
Dc3 (only dd) was 5oz heavier than dc2
Dc4 was 3oz heavier than dc3
Dc5 was 8oz heavier than dc4

All born within 2 weeks of due date with earliest being dc2

I have 3
My first 2 were exactly the same weight, 6lbs, 15oz and were boy and girl
My 3rd is a boy 8lbs

My first (girl) was 40 weeks exactly and 8lb 4oz. Second (boy) was 38 weeks and 7lb 14oz so i guess it depends. I think he would have been bigger than my first if he got to 40 weeks though.

8lb 5oz followed by 9lb 7oz. No way I'm risking a third!

I have 3 ( birth) children. Oldest was the heaviest so not always

My second was a boy and lighter than his sister.

Girl also had a much bigger head

1st 7lb 5oz boy (37 weeks) & 2nd was 9lb 2oz boy (40 weeks)

Two girls, both born at 38 and a bit weeks, naturally. DD1 was 6lbs11oz, DD2 was 7lbs7oz. So a little bit bigger, but in the general scheme of things both quite light.

DS1 was 9lb15 so I really, really, REALLY hope you're wrong! I'll find out in May.

My two were
DD1 8lb13oz @42w2d (induced)
DD2 8lb11oz@38w5d (spontaneous)

Obvously DD2 would have been bigger if she'd made it to the same gestation as DD1, but I'm convinced that's why she came so much earlier!

My first was two weeks late and weighed 7lb 9oz

My second was induced at term and 9lb 3oz!

No, why would that be true, it makes no sense

You're not birthing Russian dolls or something.

Not here..

First was a girl born at 40 + 10 and was 8lbs 6.5oz

Second was a boy born at 40 + 13 and 8lbs 4oz.

I had a 6lb 10oz baby and then a 8lb 2oz baby.

DS was bon at 40+5 and 7lb 6oz
DS was born at 39 weeks and 6lb 13oz

I was also a smaller baby than my older sister.

My two boys were born with 1oz difference in weight... please don't believe any rubbish about boys having bigger heads?? I think some people enjoy telling horror stories about giving birth!! A lot of people told me second birth is easier and I found that to be true, so try not to worry!

Ds1 born at 40weeks 8lb1oz
Ds2 born at 40+2 7lbs8oz

Everyone told me no2 would be bigger, but he wasn't!!

DC1 was 10lb 3oz at 39+6
Everyone was holding their breath to see what DS2 would be, especially when I went overdue
He came at 40+5 at 8lb 8oz, which to me seemed tiny!
I remember they put him on my chest and I said oh my god! Is he ok? He’s so small!

First - girl 41+ 4 - 8lb 9oz
Second - boy 39 + 5 - 9lb 8oz
I am only 5'1" but size 12ish
